Prov. 6:1-5

Lesson # Prov. 6:1-5
Study Material - Prov. 6:1-5

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Prov. 6:1-5

1 My son, if you have become surety for your neighbor, Have given a pledge for a stranger, 2 If you have been snared with the words of your mouth, Have been caught with the words of your mouth, 3 Do this then, my son, and deliver yourself; Since you have come into the hand of your neighbor, Go, humble yourself, and importune your neighbor. 4 Do not give sleep to your eyes, Nor slumber to your eyelids; 5 Deliver yourself like a gazelle from the hunter's hand, And like a bird from the hand of the fowler.

It is tough enough to be responsible for ones self. And perhaps tougher still to bind ones self to be responsible for someone you know. But for a stranger, someone who you do not know, there are many traps waiting for you.

This is a lesson in finance, credit and debt. If at all possible we should avoid debt, paying for those things we need with cash and paying as we go along. If you are a little short then save up and pay when you have the funds. Now for the real world. Not many of us are gazillionares with unlimited money. So if we want to have a home rather than rent, debt is our only means of obtaining a home. Most of us drive to work or to where ever we go from day to day. Financing a car is also normal. Furniture, clothes, toys, the list goes on and we are trapped in this world of maintaining those things we need as well as those things we think we need. Either debt of some type of security or debt which is unsecured is the norm in life.

So what do we gain in this lesson? Debt for others. We have our own problems and to take on the problems of others is to be approached with caution. Certainly security should be put up by that third party, be he a friend or stranger is not relevant. Business is business. No friend should ask you to blindly sign for his debt without some form of collateral protecting you.

The other item to consider is to what level you can back another person without leaving yourself exposed beyond what you can afford. And the ultimate lesson of this passage is the sin nature which we all are at risk for blindly guaranteeing its production.

But first the stranger. If you have exposed yourself either by spoken word or deed (signing some document), then get yourself out of your bond if at all possible. The interest runs, the debt remains. Even if the creditor states that it will be all right, do not worry about it for now. If the stranger disappears or fails in any way you stand to be called upon for the payment of the debt. The creditor cares nothing for your family, or home, only the payment of the debt to what ever extent it may cost you.

So exercise prudence. Be frugal with your finances. Always have some form of savings, a nest egg, a means of escape from those surprises which always drop out of the sky at the wrong time in your life. Take care when standing up for others and this is the main point of this lesson. Most people ignore Bible doctrine and that is our nest egg for deliverance from everything bad in life.

The sin nature and its production, wickedness, is the stranger in our lives. If we bond ourselves to it, live by it, then the creditor, sin, misery, death will come knocking on our door one day. Sinners, those who ignore Bible study, may have seemingly easy lives. They might even have some prosperity in life of a type. We can see only their external activities and assets. We cannot see into their souls. But if we could we would see the deterioration of their souls by the extremely high interest rates that wickedness charges and the damage to their soul caused because of their life style.

Stay alert in life like the gazelle or the bird which watches for the hunter. If you fall asleep in your Bible study, then they will capture you and your misery is certain. If you study your Bible doctrine, then you should remain alert and will spot the hunters before they find you. You can take off quickly and remain distant from their danger.

Bible study is our source for that nest egg for survival. It is our source for alertness as to what dangers might be close by. We learn to keep monitoring our thoughts, and the environment around us so as to keep ourselves in fellowship and in the will of God. We are not omniscient. We cannot see into the future. But we can gain a lot of common sense and instinct for life. God will provide those resources that we cannot foresee. In short everything we have, resource wise is from God, beginning with Bible doctrine. So we humble ourselves and surrender ourselves to God through our study and the life style which the Bible teaches us to follow, and He will free us from the bonds of the sin nature and its many traps.

Now is the time to post a prayer.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
