Lesson # Prov. 5:18-20
Study Material - Prov. 5:18-20
You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.
Prov. 5:18-20
18 Let your fountain be blessed, And rejoice in the wife of your youth. 19 As a loving hind and a graceful doe, Let her breasts satisfy you at all times; Be exhilarated always with her love. 20 For why should you, my son, be exhilarated with an adulteress, And embrace the bosom of a foreigner?
Spoken from the point of view of a man, Solomon, who certainly had experience with women, 1000 of them, we see the contrast continued between the adulterous pursuit and the righteous pursuit.
The adulterous pursuit in life seeks to gain satisfaction from the stranger, the ship passing in the night, the harlot which is the sin nature which offers only momentary pleasure and a destructive pleasure at that. You are all probably aware of the various diseases that can be had from a lose sexual life. And this also applies to the soul of the person who caresses sin in place of God's word.
Solomon puts this lesson in terms that most people can understand, sexual terms. The embracing of the female breast, but not just any breast. As king, Solomon would certainly have the best available. The fullest, softest, and you get the idea. This is a sexual picture of a man seeking pleasure with his counterpart, but the woman has her desires as well toward the man. And the lesson is Bible doctrine vs. the sin nature.
The sin nature is the adulterous, the one with whom you cheat on your true spouse. The true spouse is defined by God and given to you, specifically to you as your partner for life. The one with whom you draw the grandest of pleasures. The one that sleeps with you, the one that helps you through times of trouble and celebrates with you in times of ecstasy. The one that provides you with your support and the one that provides you with nourishment and sustenance in life. This is your spouse, Bible doctrine.
In the real world marriages succeed and they fail. The failed marriages come from the failure of one or both of the partners. Doesn't really matter who is at fault. If the boat sinks it sinks feeling bad about it doesn't help. Everyone has to pick themselves up in life and move forward. Of course the divorce process takes its toll emotionally and financially, but it will end and another chapter in your life will unfold. But we are not discussing divorce. We are discussing the role of the wife, or better put, the spouse in our individual lives. Bible doctrine is the true spouse. The sin nature is the false partner, the stranger, the harlot, the one with whom we should not interact, but the one who tempts our desires for pleasures in life.
So we should rejoice in our true spouse, Bible doctrine. And enjoy her pleasures that she gives to us freely. In the context of this illustration, the obedient wife gives herself to her husband and does all that she can do to satisfy him and bring him pleasure and happiness. She gives all and asks nothing in return. Now the lesson. Bible doctrine asks nothing from us. Mankind can do nothing to earn or deserve anything, so Bible doctrine, when we embrace it like we would a spouse, gives back to us many times over.
Now we have our own well, a deep well, producing an endless supply of fresh thirst quenching water. And we have a spouse giving us the most pleasure we could ever imagine. Young married people, I know, I know, people often fool around before marriage, but the point is that when they are new to each other, they are active sexually and probably very active. This is how we should be with Bible doctrine, constantly in awe and thinking of our new found partner, Bible doctrine. Because it will pay us back many times over in blessing and happiness. Bible doctrine can provide exhilaration's beyond that imaginable.
The embraces with a stranger, a foreigner, the sin nature, at the expense of Bible doctrine, provide no future at all. The sin nature consumes you with a decaying disease. Doctrine exhilarates you in contrast.
Now is the time to post a prayer.
End Of Lesson
Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
