Proverbs 3:1
Lesson # Proverbs 3:1
Study Material - Proverbs 3:1
You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.
Prov. 3:1
1 My son, do not forget my teaching, But let your heart keep my commandments;
The importance of living a life with communion with God, is taught in this proverb. The advantages are immense. The disadvantages of ignoring God are terrible. Things you would not wish on your worst enemy.
'My son', refers to us, you and me. Male or female, young or old. Anyone who has believed in Christ and is now saved, and is a member of the family of God. There are advantages to being connected in this world, to belonging to the right family, to being born with the silver spoon.
We can see many examples of the wealthy who have all the best things, the best contacts, the best circumstances, the better options and the list goes on, when you have these advantages. But in this world these advantages are nothing but teaching aids to help us learn what the real advantages are when we are born into the family of God. God provides the silver spoon to the infinite power, the best connections, the best advantages in life. God has the power and the wisdom to guide your life moment by moment and to place you in all the right places at the right times.
Nothing in this world can provide that, even if you were born into the richest family in the world, you have nothing unless you first believe in Christ and second advance in your spiritual life.
Once in the family of God as a Christian, and this is where we must be before any of the advantages become available to us, then we must follow Gods procedures to the letter. When we review the Levitical offering process, we will see a lot of fine detail. When we review the construction of the temple we will see a lot of detail. When God orders something done, it has to be done exactly as commanded or God threatens execution. David was out of sync with God when Jesus Christ stood over Jerusalem holding a flaming sword ready to slash the city to destruction unless David did exactly as told. Pharaoh held out for ten plagues and still pursued the Israelites to the sea and into it. His stubbornness caused the death of his military, and family members, and many Egyptians in general. But remember, that God is not unfair. Everyone is held responsible for their own decisions. God never punishes anyone for the failures of another. You will never be punished because of someone else's failure.
Don't forget Gods teaching. Commit His Word to your heart, which is your soul. Review the chart on the index page covering the soul structure. Where does spiritual growth occur? In the soul. Spiritual growth is not a physical growth, it is a growth in your soul, and a growth fed by Bible doctrine, not academic information. The entire objective of your spiritual life is to learn Bible doctrine, to get yourself into fellowship which is very easy to do, and to apply doctrine to your daily life. These three things in your life are essential. Fellowship status with God is essential of course and the key to your whole spiritual life. If you are not in fellowship you go nowhere. And you do not enter into the presence of God unless you follow the rules for getting yourself into fellowship. And in case you do not remember how to do this, you simply confess your sins to God the Father. No emotional experiences involved whatsoever.
Your heart is the center of your life. Your soul exists in your body. At your physical birth God imputes human life into your soul. You begin breathing immediately. You have been separated from your mothers womb and are no longer dependent on your mother. But once in this world you are again a slave to sin and death from this world. Believing in Christ is another birth. God regenerates a human spirit this time in you and He imputes eternal life into that human spirit. This separates you again from this world and gives you an independence from sin and death. You are not done yet. You still live in this world and are exposed to its pressures. Learning doctrine is essential. Again you confess to God getting yourself into Gods presence, on Holy ground. You cannot enter Gods temple, and that is where you are going, unless you get sin out of your life. God has authorized this one method for accomplishing it. Nothing magical or mysterious happens, God just commands this one method and we are to comply. We do not define our own method of gaining access to God. We do not reject Gods commands and come up with our 'better' ways. Fellowship separates you from sin and gives you the ultimate independence in your soul and in life. You learn Bible doctrine while in residence in Gods presence, in fellowship. Here you grow. Here you live the spiritual life. Here you are defended by God from all problems in life. Here you are behind Gods shield, inside His fortress, have access to Gods bank of blessings. Here you advance into Gods rest.
You are commanded to learn, to remember, to recall, to apply Bible doctrine to your life. The key to life and eternity is not from anything in this life. The key is Gods Word resident and active in your soul.
Now is the time to post a prayer.

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
