Proverbs 2:1-5

Lesson # Proverbs 2:1-5
Study Material - Proverbs 2:1-5

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Prov. 2:1-5

1 My son, if you will receive my sayings, And treasure my commandments within you, 2 Make your ear attentive to wisdom, Incline your heart to understanding; 3 For if you cry for discernment, Lift your voice for understanding; 4 If you seek her as silver, And search for her as for hidden treasures; 5 Then you will discern the fear of the LORD, And discover the knowledge of God.

Job 28:12, Job poses the question, where can wisdom be found, where is understanding, and here Solomon tells where exactly wisdom, where knowledge is found and how it is obtained. In the previous proverb we saw the reward of rejecting God. People seek their own wisdom and find nothing good. Instead they find misery and doom for their misguided efforts.

Here God provides wisdom if we will receive His sayings. What are His sayings - Bible doctrine, the entire text of scripture from Genesis to Revelation. And treasure Gods word as you would gold or other things of intrinsic value. If someone told you there was a billion in gold, with certainty, under your floor boards, you would be tearing up the floor without hesitation. Now God tells us there trillions in gold between the covers of your Bible. Would you still search for it as you would the former? Hummm!

Thought most people know of the promises of God, they do not believe them and their Bible, brand spanking new, bound in leather and inscribed with the family initials, sits prominently and unopened in the family room. All that gold never earning any interest. Might as well have stayed in the ground. Now there is a good example of unused wealth. If you leave the gold in the ground, you can never enjoy the benefit it offers. You have to dig it out, refine it, and then apply it to your life. Spend it in other words.

To learn Bible doctrine, you need to be in fellowship - make your ear attentive, poised to hear Gods Word which is presented by the Holy Spirit - Spirit to spirit is the means of learning Bible doctrine. You need to believe what you learn - incline your heart to understanding. Listen, analyze, discern, test, and then come to know the truth. Cry for discernment, desire Gods Word as you would a big pot full of gold.

Does the Yankee dollar, British pound, Aussie Dollar, or what ever the coin of your realm is, do they have more impact on you than learning Gods Word? Where do you think that it all came from? The government? Not hardly. Governments come and go. Currency comes and goes. Your employment may come and go. Your reputation may come and go. Joseph was a nice person, but others did not like him. His brothers tossed him in a hole and sold him into slavery. Later he gets accused of rape. Things did not go well for Joseph for a while. So you too could be the victim of the harsh words and lies of others. The world is a swirling storm and you are not exempt from its wrath. Unless you seek God and the security He alone offers from His mighty fortress.

If only you seek His Word just as you would the wealth of this world. So it all comes down to your attitude. Negative people hate God. Though you would not ascribe this emotion to nice, or seemingly nice people you meet in church, or at work, or at the little league baseball games, or in the knitting club, but they are examined by God to the very depths of their soul. God has all the facts from every moment of their lives. You see these people for a very small percentage of their life time. Probably under 5% of their life, and all you see is what the surface presents. So none of us can know what someone is thinking, unless of course they are very obvious.

Negative people, whether passively or aggressively, are all evil and all reject God, therefore they hate God, and think of their own ideas as better. They think they can determine for themselves better than God can. They are the fools of fools and they probably will never change. Satan is the perfect example of someone who has seen all of history. Certainly more lifetimes than we have seen. He has seen all of creation, all God has done, yet he defiantly rejects God and will continue to do so until the end of time. Even knowing his own demise. So people who are negative follow Satans pattern. If we could see a true account of history, we would see how God has demonstrated this time and time again.

Conversely, those who seek God diligently, will find Him, and be prospered, and held secure in His hands. God reveals to those who seek Him, and hides from those who reject Him.

Be smart, be wise, seek God, not lies!

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
