Lesson # Leviticus 7:28-34
Study Material - Leviticus 7:28-34
You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.
Lev. 7:28-34
28 Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 29 'Speak to the sons of Israel, saying, 'He who offers the sacrifice of his peace offerings to the LORD shall bring his offering to the LORD from the sacrifice of his peace offerings. 30 'His own hands are to bring offerings by fire to the LORD. He shall bring the fat with the breast, that the breast may be presented as a wave offering before the LORD. 31 'And the priest shall offer up the fat in smoke on the altar; but the breast shall belong to Aaron and his sons. 32 'And you shall give the right thigh to the priest as a contribution from the sacrifices of your peace offerings. 33 'The one among the sons of Aaron who offers the blood of the peace offerings and the fat, the right thigh shall be his as his portion. 34 'For I have taken the breast of the wave offering and the thigh of the contribution from the sons of Israel from the sacrifices of their peace offerings, and have given them to Aaron the priest and to his sons as their due forever from the sons of Israel.
The priest, the descendent of Aaron, who assists the offeror in giving the peace offering, is given a portion of that offering.
The priest is an authorized priest. He is bonafide in that God promoted the tribe of Levi to the priesthood. The priest cannot be someone other than one who has been properly placed in that role by God. Yet here is another item of the sacrificial process, which we have gone over several times, but now recognize that the priesthood is something that God assigned to certain people. People cannot self appoint themselves to be priests of God. Only God can promote. Man cannot make himself a priest in the service of God.
These days, since the priesthood of Levi has been revoked, we live in a day of the Royal Family. We are all royalty, all priests, all ambassadors, etc. See he blessings list on the Index Page link above. We can now represent ourselves direct to God. We do not have to go through a third party as was required with the formal sacrifices back in the time of Moses. But remember too that back then the sacrifices were a forum of instruction for the teaching of Gods words. When people went home, they would resume their normal daily lives and confess as required, study whatever notes they might have, etc. But all sacrifices were to be formal and through the priesthood of the Levites.
Prior to this was the family priesthood, such as in Adam's time or Abraham's time, where the head of the family offered the appropriate sacrifices. The head of the family was the instructor of Gods word as well. Likewise the wife would be a proper instructor in the rearing of the children within the household as to their spiritual skills, reading and writing skills, etc. Both parents had a responsibility. And they still have that responsibility even today.
The choice portions, the right breast, the right rear flank would belong to the priest. They are to be cut away and raised jointly by the offeror and the priest, into the air. Waved as it were. The motion of raising heavenward, these choice portions, offering them ceremonially to God, then from God to the priest, representing Gods acceptance of the offering, and God giving back the gift in recognition of the valid priesthood. Nothing is ever given back to a priesthood that is false, or self appointed.
Throughout the sacrifice procedures we have been studying, nothing is accepted, not even authorized unless it first came direct from God. All of the sacrifices point to the salvation process as well as the spiritual process of ones life following salvation - spiritual growth by means of daily Bible study.
Throughout history people have distorted the sacrifices and the process by adding false priests, false gods, false motives, by changing the things that can be offered (human), and so forth. Even various religions or clubs in history have created their own rituals calling them holy, when in fact they are merely rituals that people have come up with for their own organization, secret rites, that only a privileged few can participate in. By the way, anytime you run across an organization that has these kinds of privileged rituals, you should know right away, that the organization is false and a fraud when it comes to spiritual matters.
Nothing in the Bible is kept from anyone. All people have equal opportunity and equal privilege when it comes to Christianity an the spiritual life. No one is greater or lessor in their spiritual life based on their social status in life, their financial status, or any of a long list of other things that man ranks himself by. In this world there are great inequities which generally lead to great prejudices and biases and so forth. Life is just not fair, from the point of view of the jungle. But in the spiritual life there is a level playing field for all. IQ does not give a genius an advantage over a very low IQ person. Great wealth and educational opportunities do not give advantage to those with verses those without when it comes to the spiritual life. God provides fairly and equitably to all who are positive toward Him.
Anyone who seeks God, God will in turn provide all the spiritual devices that are available. What are those necessary devices? Positive volition on the believers part and the Holy Spirit's communication to the soul via the human spirit. God does all of the work. The believer listens and learns and grows. God leads that prepared individual through life regardless of the barriers that might lie in front of him. God does not depend on human viewpoint nor human resources to fulfill His plan, He works without regard to human means - the battle is the Lords.
The priest and offeror both lift up the prescribed portions of the sacrifice in offering to God, which offering is accepted. How do we know it is accepted? Because all offering (all prayer) which is offered in the prescribed manner authorized by God, is received by God. This He has promised in many passages - 'If you follow in my footsteps. If you follow my commandments...', and so forth, then blessings will fill up your cup to overflowing to the point of pursuing you, Psa. 23.
Now is the time to post a prayer.
