Leviticus 6:14-23

Lesson # Leviticus 6:14-23
Study Material - Leviticus 6:14-23

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Lev. 6:14-23

14 'Now this is the law of the grain offering: the sons of Aaron shall present it before the LORD in front of the altar. 15 'Then one of them shall lift up from it a handful of the fine flour of the grain offering, with its oil and all the incense that is on the grain offering, and he shall offer it up in smoke on the altar, a soothing aroma, as its memorial offering to the LORD. 16 'And what is left of it Aaron and his sons are to eat. It shall be eaten as unleavened cakes in a holy place; they are to eat it in the court of the tent of meeting. 17 'It shall not be baked with leaven. I have given it as their share from My offerings by fire; it is most holy, like the sin offering and the guilt offering. 18 'Every male among the sons of Aaron may eat it; it is a permanent ordinance throughout your generations, from the offerings by fire to the LORD. Whoever touches them shall become consecrated.' 19 Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 20 'This is the offering which Aaron and his sons are to present to the LORD on the day when he is anointed; the tenth of an ephah of fine flour as a regular grain offering, half of it in the morning and half of it in the evening. 21 It shall be prepared with oil on a griddle. When it is well stirred, you shall bring it. You shall present the grain offering in baked pieces as a soothing aroma to the LORD. 22 And the anointed priest who will be in his place among his sons shall offer it. By a permanent ordinance it shall be entirely offered up in smoke to the LORD. 23 So every grain offering of the priest shall be burned entirely. It shall not be eaten.'

These verses refer to the gift offering form chapter two. Recall the fine flour ground from the grain represents the person of Christ, the purity of His nature. The oil represents the Holy Spirit. The stirring in of the oil represents the indwelling and sustaining ministry of the Holy Spirit during Jesus' life here on earth. Well stirred oil into the mix makes its indwelling permanent. The frankincense (chapter 2) represents the soothing aroma acceptable by God with respect to this entire event of Christ on the Cross.

No honey or leaven is to be used in the mixture. Both human good and sin are rejected on the Cross. Actually human good is rejected, and sin is judged in the fires of judgment of the Cross. No honey means no good intention of man can be added to the work of Christ on the Cross. No leaven means that nothing that is corruptible can be added to the work of Christ on the Cross. God did all of the work. Man can contribute nothing. No man invented philosophy or imagination is allowed into the plan of God.

The cakes baked on the alter can be seen by the general public This is the manward side of the sacrifice. This is the side that man can see. Therefore man is able to eat of the sacrificed cakes. Man is the recipient of the work of Christ on the Cross. The gift is to be eaten inside the court of the Tabernacle. All fellowship with God, functions inside His will and sphere of protection. Man cannot have fellowship with God outside (symbolically speaking) in the jungle where sin controls the person.

The side that cannot be seen, the cakes baked unseen in the oven, is the Godward side of the sacrifice. This is the spiritual work side which is not visible to man. These cakes are not to be eaten. Man cannot venture into the spiritual on his own initiative and observe or even assist in the work of Christ.

The gift offering is to be split into two parts, morning and evening. The manward side and the Godward side. Christ was visible on the Cross for a time, then for three hours there was a supernatural darkness into which no one could see the terrible judgment that Christ endured. By the way, Christ was still alive when the judging of all sin was completed. His physical death, which occurred shortly after, had nothing to do with his work in paying the price for sin. But His physical death did give rise to the opportunity to prove that death's power had been canceled as Christ was later risen on a resurrection body.

This gift offering will be the second of the sacrifices and offerings that will be presented to God at the ordination of Aaron and his sons, chapter 8. The first offering being the burnt offering of course.

Now we have seen the first two sacrifices. The burnt offering representing the work of Christ on the Cross securing our salvation and paying the price on the Cross for the judgment of sin for all of mankind. The second offering is the gift offering. This is a gift from God to man. Man had no part in it, except the unique God/man, Jesus Christ. And again it was the sole work of God in the person of Jesus Christ.

These two sacrifices are set apart as law. They are set in concrete. They represent mans path to God. Apart from these representative teachings, there is no access to God, no other path to God. Only by the work of Christ on the Cross, and through His gift back to man, and by mans acceptance of that gift through faith, is there eternal life in heaven.
