You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.
Lev. 6:8-13
8 Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 9 'Command Aaron and his sons, saying, 'This is the law for the burnt offering: the burnt offering itself shall remain on the hearth on the altar all night until the morning, and the fire on the altar is to be kept burning on it. 10 'And the priest is to put on his linen robe, and he shall put on undergarments next to his flesh; and he shall take up the ashes to which the fire reduces the burnt offering on the altar, and place them beside the altar. 11 'Then he shall take off his garments and put on other garments, and carry the ashes outside the camp to a clean place. 12 'And the fire on the altar shall be kept burning on it. It shall not go out, but the priest shall burn wood on it every morning; and he shall lay out the burnt offering on it, and offer up in smoke the fat portions of the peace offerings on it. 13 'Fire shall be kept burning continually on the altar; it is not to go out.
The remainder of this chapter as well as chapter seven are a supplement to the first five chapters of Leviticus. While the first set of instructions were to the people, giving the detailed step by steps for the various sacrifices, now the instructions (the laws) are given to the priests their duties and responsibilities.
Foremost in these instructions is to keep the fire on the alter going day and night. To never let it go out. The fire on the alter is the Word of God. It is a fire that is to burn within the soul of every person, and burn constantly and steadily forever, and ever. If that fire ever goes out, then big trouble and great loss of blessing await the believer. The worship of God is to be continual in our lives. That worship includes ones daily study, as well as keeping Gods thoughts on ones mind always.
The Priests were to keep the instruction of Gods Word going daily such that anyone ands everyone would have the opportunity to learn and grow.
This is the Law, the command. It is not optional, but mandatory. There is no other source of truth in this world but that which is provided by Gods instruction. There is no other sustaining of life but that which comes from the daily intake of Gods word.
The ashes are to be constantly maintained (that is cleaned off of the alter), making ready for more wood, more sacrifice, more instruction. The cleaning out of the ashes keeps the alter of instruction clear of debris and confusion. The ashes were to be cleaned off to the east side of the alter. That side furthermost from the tabernacle.
The Priest changes his clothes. Fresh clothes represent the change we go through when we receive Christ as savior. This first set of instructions is in regard to the burnt offering, the sacrifice of Christ on the Cross. The salvation offering.
The ashes are removed from the tabernacle and court area to a place outside. Once sin has been judged it is removed from the picture of God and our relationship with Him. There is no further judgment, no double jeopardy with regard to sin. Only forgiveness becomes the issue in our daily relationship with God and that is taught by the last two offering rituals, which we have already studied.
In chapter one, God portion of the offering is presented. In effect all of the offering, belongs to God. Our portion is to keep Gods instruction ever before us. The sacrifice of Christ on the Cross is a single event in history which cured our problem of eternal separation with God. These animal sacrifices were repeated daily for centuries. Thousands upon tens of thousands of animals were sacrificed during those centuries, and not one of them secured salvation for even one person. Man does not have the ability nor the wherewithall to save himself. Man can only learn from Gods instruction. Only God can secure the freedom that man so desperately needs in order to escape death and eternal condemnation, and have any kind of future. Only God can come up with a plan to secure our freedom. Only God can pay the high price to buy us out of the slavery that traps us in sin and death. There is no other dominion, no other power, no other means by which we may be saved.
Now is the time to post a prayer.
