Leviticus 4:27-31
Lesson # Leviticus 4:27-31
Study Material - Leviticus 4:27-31
You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.
Lev. 4:27-31
27 'Now if anyone of the common people sins unintentionally in doing any of the things which the LORD has commanded not to be done, and becomes guilty, 28 if his sin, which he has committed is made known to him, then he shall bring for his offering a goat, a female without defect, for his sin which he has committed. 29 'And he shall lay his hand on the head of the sin offering, and slay the sin offering at the place of the burnt offering. 30 'And the priest shall take some of its blood with his finger and put it on the horns of the altar of burnt offering; and all the rest of its blood he shall pour out at the base of the altar. 31 'Then he shall remove all its fat, just as the fat was removed from the sacrifice of peace offerings; and the priest shall offer it up in smoke on the altar for a soothing aroma to the LORD. Thus the priest shall make atonement for him, and he shall be forgiven.
Last but not least, the sin offering for the common folk. That probably includes you and I, unless you happen to be a national leader, or some sort of high profile person on this planet, but regardless of who you are, or what you own, or where you work, or where you live, the process of confession is the same for us all.
Our instruction is given in 1 Jn. 1:9, 'If we confess our sins (to God the Father), then He is faithful and just to forgive us (known sins) and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (including unknown sins).
The word which is repeated in this chapter of Leviticus is forgiven, from verse 20, again in verse 26, and again in verses 31 and 35. 'Salach', forgiven, cleansed, which is in the past tense, 'has been forgiven', 'has been cleansed'.
The offering of the goat, a female this time, represents the passive volition of Christ while He was on the Cross. Remember that the two goats male and female represented the active and passive volition's of Christ with respect to His attitude toward the Cross. The active volition occurred prior to when Christ was nailed to the Cross. The passive volition occurs while Christ was actually on the Cross.
The general population is low on the totem pole. We are the bottom of the ladder as far as society is concerned. You might say that we are on the Cross and there is nothing we can do about it. Christ was on the Cross and certainly could have stopped it all if He wanted to, but He did not. Nor did He wish to have he events of the Cross stopped. Without the Cross there would be no salvation, no promise fulfilled from God, nothing. We wouldn't even be here now, the universe would just collapse into itself and squish everyone and everything forever and ever into some parallel universe and squish that one too and so forth, and that would just ruin everyone's day.
But....., Christ remained on the Cross and saved our day, or all of our days. No squished universes or anything else like that.
So the common person in this life has two things working for him, salvation (the work of Christ on the Cross, and prayer (through knowledge of doctrine). In this (doctrine), we all have equal opportunity in our spiritual life now and in eternity, something that this world does not give us. We are the deprived, the handicapped, the overlooked in promotion, the helpless in the face of world bureaucracy and prejudice, just a number on a credit card, if you happen to have one.
But in Gods eyes we still sin and we still have obligations to confess them to Him. Often we do not know of those sins, but we are just as guilty whether we are aware of them or not. Therefore the sin offering is illustrated here, the obligation of the offering is required when one learns of the sin, but how does one learn? By Bible study. So we al have an obligation to study our Bible and learn so that we can recognize sin and avoid it, and better yet, to confess it and remain in fellowship. Don't worry. When known sins are confessed, the unknown sins are cleansed up automatically, '... and cleanse us from 'all' unrighteousness'.
To cover yourself each day, perhaps each morning or evening, and certainly prior to every Bible study, confess your arrogance. Everyone is guilty of that, in some form or another, for arrogance is the granddaddy of all sin. You still have to confess your known sins, too, but this will keep you in fellowship in case you 'forget'!!!
In a passive way, we should keep in our Bible study. We are stuck in this world (passive) and there is nothing we can do about that. So stay in the Word and benefit. To try to jump out of life because we are impatient or frustrated does us no good.
Now is the time to post a prayer.
End Of Lesson
Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
