Leviticus 2:11-13
Lesson # Leviticus 2:11-13
Study Material - Leviticus 2:11-13
You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.
Lev. 2:11-13
11 'No grain offering, which you bring to the LORD, shall be made with leaven, for you shall not offer up in smoke any leaven or any honey as an offering by fire to the LORD. 12 'As an offering of first fruits, you shall bring them to the LORD, but they shall not ascend for a soothing aroma on the altar. 13 'Every grain offering of yours, moreover, you shall season with salt, so that the salt of the covenant of your God shall not be lacking from your grain offering; with all your offerings you shall offer salt.
These three verses present rules for the gift offerings. First no leaven - representing human sin. Anything that promotes souring or fermentation is prohibited. So sin is a souring in a persons life. Next honey is prohibited - representing human good. The works of mankind even though they are of good intentions, are rejected by God and not permitted in the sacrificial rituals. Mans works are rejected and have no part in the salvation work of Christ on the Cross. And last the salt - representing the preservative. Salt is Bible doctrine and preserves so that one will not go bad, so that one won't sour. It adds taste and life to all that it touches. Salt is to be added, Bible doctrine is to be added to all of these rituals. A persons life depends on more that just the concepts taught, it depends on ones learning Bible doctrine and having it ingrained deep into the persons soul.
We have reviewed leaven already, so we will go on to the honey concept. It represents human good which is excluded in Gods plan. Human is regarded as dead works, Heb. 6:1. We are to get away from the concepts of simply living a good life. That is not enough. Actually it is the wrong emphasis for ones life. Priorities should be placed on Bible instruction and then the living of a good life will follow ones learning of Bible doctrine.
Doing good deeds will not save anyone, Eph. 2:8-9. We are saved by faith and not of our own energies. The gift comes from God, therefore we have the gift offering. There is no room for boasting in this offering. There is no credit to man for presenting this offering. No person, when making this offering, jumps into the pan, or even into the fire. That is prohibited. Yet in their distortions of sacrifices, many cultures in history and around the world have corrupted this sacrificial process by adding human sacrifice.
Human good is considered filthy rags, Isa. 64:6. The word for filthy is 'ed', menstrual flux, and herein refers to rags used for the purpose of capturing and containing the menstrual flow of the females monthly cycle. So the next time you are proud of doing something good (while out of fellowship), then remember that it is only as good as that which is discarded by the ladies every month.
In every offering of this type, it was always burned representing the judgment and the propitiation of the offering as a sweet savor to God, but at the Feast of the First Fruits the 'burning' requirement was not allowed. The First Fruits represents the resurrection of Christ. He was the first person to be resurrected in history, and as of this date He is the only person to have been resurrected so far. The next resurrection will not occur until the Rapture of the Church.
The resurrection was not a part of the judgment on the Cross - it was a result of that successful judgment. Therefore at this feast - the Feast of the Fruit Fruits, the gift offering was not placed onto the alter and burned.
So the first prohibition was the exclusion of leaven and honey. No sin and no human good is to be made a part of the gift offering. The second prohibition was the exclusion of the burning of the gift offering at the feast of the First Fruits. The third rule for this offering was that it was to be seasoned with salt.
Salt was used to cure and dry foods to preserve them, therefore the use of salt combined with the offering represents eternal life - the preservation of ones life forever. Salt is a flavor provider. Its use gives flavor to otherwise tasteless foods. Bible doctrine in ones soul gives your life meaning and purpose. The absence of doctrine in ones soul means that your life is less than rot.
Believers are said to be the salt of the earth, we preserve this planet, Matt. 5:13. When the rapture occurs or even when there are few believers in the world as with Noah, then the world deteriorates from all of the rot represented by everyone else who lives here and lacks salt in their life.
The salt of the covenant of God is the agreement we have with God. Propitiation - God is satisfied with the work of the Cross. Reconciliation - God accepts mans faith in the work of the Cross. If there were no Cross then there would be an eternal separation between man and God forever, but since the Cross has occurred, then there is opportunity for all of mankind to have a relationship with God forever. If we believe, then we in effect have presented our offering to God and He has accepted it as a soothing aroma. Thus the salt permanently seals our life forever with God. The salt being Bible doctrine. The scriptures being the written word, and Christ being the living word.
Now is the time to post a prayer.
