Lev. 2:5-6
5 'And if your offering is a grain offering made on the griddle, it shall be of fine flour, unleavened, mixed with oil; 6 you shall break it into bits, and pour oil on it; it is a grain offering.
In contrast to the oven offering which is hidden from the view of the offerer and those present, the griddle offering is totally in view to all present. The griddle, 'machabath', a flat open hot plate. It is held over the fire and the food is cooked in the open.
The representations made here view the Cross fro the manward side. That side which could be seen by people who were present during the crucifixion. Here Christ was tormented since the beginning of His first trial, through a total of six trials where he was ridiculed, struck, beaten, laughed at, interrogated and so forth. People and angels viewed these events. We have already seen from previous studies that Jesus was not the long haired meek and wimpy person that so much art work depicts Him as. He was in fact an extremely strong and very well built man. If he were any other man, He could have easily taken His captors apart with His bare hands. That would have been a brawl worth seeing. But of course, that was not his purpose. Remember that He is the only Son, the prize bull, the prize goat, the perfect specimen ready for the task for which He came into this world.
He was powerful and though He was struck repeatedly with blows that eventually took all of his physical strength, 'He opened no His mouth'. Pilot stated, 'behold the man'. That is all he saw. But many others saw the man and thought, 'behold the Son of God.' Even the battle hardened soldiers who took Him, with the Cross, to the place of crucifixion and actually drove the nails through his hands and feet, and raised him up roughly and dropped with force, the cross into the hole prepared for it, were eventually saved. Simon of Cyrene (Libya), who was pulled from the crowd to carry the cross when Jesus strength gave out, was saved. He came for the Passover feast. Little did he realize what was in store for him. But he was saved as a result of these events.
Some people have to see the miracles of life before they believe, while others believe without seeing things.
The breaking of the cakes represents his broken body from the beatings, from the hanging on the Cross while gravity did its work pulling the bones apart as the person hung on the Cross, waiting for the soldiers to break their legs in the final blow to bring on death. The two thieves went through this, but Jesus did not. None of His bones were broken for he had completed his work and had died physically when the soldiers came to check on Him. But they did stab Him with their spear in the chest to insure that He was already dead.
The oil was poured on indicating His appointment for this purpose in His life, Psa. 2:7. Jesus Christ was born in to this world for the purpose for going to the Cross.
Now is the time to post a prayer.
