Leviticus 1:3
Lesson # Leviticus 1:3
Study Material - Leviticus 1:3
You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.
Lev. 1:3
3 'If his offering is a burnt offering from the herd, he shall offer it, a male without defect; he shall offer it at the doorway of the tent of meeting, that he may be accepted before the LORD.
'If', and the sacrificial animal may come from one of three places, the herd, the flock, the birds. These three sources of sacrificial animals give all persons in all economic classes, rich or poor, access to the offering process which God demands.
This offering process is mandatory, not voluntary, if anyone wishes to have any relationship with God at all. To be fair then all peoples need access to the things that God requires, whether yearling bulls of the highest quality or whether of pigeons which are readily available to everyone, especially the poor.
The herd is the source of the sacrifice for the rich. If God has given you much, then much is expected in return. A rich person who brings in a pigeon to make a sacrifice would be an insult to God, and that offering would be rejected for its selfish motivations.
Sacrifices represent our daily worship. We are in effect making our daily sacrifice when we open our Bibles, download our e-mail Bible study, etc., and proceed in our daily Bible study. Of course every person could not offer a sacrifice 365 days of the year, but the Levitical priesthood was to receive and would receive sufficient animals that would permit them to conduct their sacrifices every morning and evening, twice a day, every day of the year. Those in attendance were to learn the principles of the sacrifice, as the priests taught the various spiritual lessons during the sacrifice process.
'If from the herd...', then the rich person was to select a young bull. This is the male of the species. A cow or heifer would be the female of the animal class. The difference between the heifer and the cow is that the cow has been pregnant and has given birth to calves. The heifer has never been bred with a bull. Likewise a yearling bull is one who has never been bred, but is in tact and has all the necessary equipment to produce offspring.
The young bull without blemish, without defect. This is a valuable bull from any herd, full of spit and vinegar and ready to take on the world. A young perfect bull is not an animal that can be easily led around on a leash, but would take some excellent cattle handling abilities in order to get it on the sacrificial alter. It will not go there voluntarily. So the graphic part of this sacrifice is about to appear.
In contrast Jesus Christ went to the Cross voluntarily, and without a fight. The young bull is representative of Christ in a number of ways. "Without defect'. The bull would not be acceptable for the sacrifice unless it was perfect in every possible way. From the external appearance it could have no flaws. It would be muscular and well formed. On the inside, which will be seen when it is skinned, there can be no flaws or defects in its internal bodily portions. Jesus Christ is that only person who ever lived who lived 33 years on this planet, who did not commit even one sin throughout his entire life even up to and throughout the judgment on the Cross. Jesus Christ, in contrast with mankind, was the only candidate who could fulfill the requirements of perfection, 'without defect'.
As God he could not go to the Cross, since God is omnipresent and cannot be confined to one point or place. As perfect righteousness and perfect justice, God can have nothing to do with sin. Therefore God had to become man, in order to assume the role of savior and go to the Cross to accomplish the work of the Cross. Man could not do this. The only other man who might have been the candidate for salvation was Adam who was created perfect but in the course of time, he failed. Since Jesus lived some 33 years, one can only presume that Adam lived a significant time shorter than 33 years before He sinned, otherwise Satan would have cried foul if Jesus Christ did not live at least as long as Adam to demonstrate His ability to do what Adam was unable to do. Therefore it is highly likely that Adam and Eve lived in the Garden for less than 33 years before falling to sin.
No other human could qualify as a perfect offering since all sinned in Adam, Rom. 5:12, Psa 51:5. Here we have seen that sin passes down through the human race from generation to generation through procreation. We are all born spiritually dead, Eph. 2:1, therefore none of us can possibly qualify as an offering 'without defect'. Only one individual qualifies and that is Jesus Christ.
The sacrifice of the bull without defect represents the perfection of the one being sacrificed, the perfection of the Son of God, the incarnate man who will go to the Cross and pay the price for sin to free us all from its chains..
The offering is made at the door of the tent of meeting, at the tabernacle. No one can approach God except through the sacrifice of the young bull. There is only one way to be accepted by God and gain access to God, and that is through the sacrifice of the Savior, the work of God on the Cross, which this offering of the Bull portrays.
A sacrifice in any other manner would not be accepted. It is Gods way, or no way. Man does not dictate the rules for salvation. God does. His instructions have to be followed. There is no room for modification to the method of salvation. We are saved by Believing in Jesus Christ, period. We cannot be saved by working for God, by raising a hand, even by attendance to church. Lots of unbelievers attend church. There is only one way of salvation and that is through belief in the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the Cross.
'...he shall offer it...', means that this sacrifice is voluntary on the part of the offeror. Each one of us must decide through the voluntary expression of our own volition to believe in Jesus Christ. Every offeror must come to the tent of meeting of their own volition and believe in Christ. In this way we express to God the Father, in prayer, a salvation prayer, our belief in Christ and in so doing, He accepts our offering, our faith in His plan for our salvation, and credits to us this faith as righteousness, His perfect righteousness as we noted in our study of Abram in Genesis.
At the moment of our faith expression, a regenerated human spirit is created in us and eternal life is imputed into that human spirit. From that moment on in our life we are said to be body, soul, and spirit, whereas as unbelievers we were but body and soul. The existence of a human spirit now gives us a method of communicating and of having a relationship with God.
Now is the time to post a prayer.
