Joshua 6:12-14

Lesson # Josh. 6:12-14
Study Material - Josh. 6:12-14

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Josh. 6:12-14

12 Now Joshua rose early in the morning, and the priests took up the ark of the LORD. 13 And the seven priests carrying the seven trumpets of rams' horns before the ark of the LORD went on continually, and blew the trumpets; and the armed men went before them, and the rear guard came after the ark of the LORD, while they continued to blow the trumpets. 14 Thus the second day they marched around the city once and returned to the camp; they did so for six days.

For those not on the mailing list, who down load the bible study each day, this days study notes is a little delayed due to weather. We had a good 20 inches of snow and power has been out all day. I try to get the daily study uploaded each evening and sometimes earlier if possible, but then there are those times when that isn't possible. Sorry about that! Anyway, moving forward.

The first round trip of the city has been accomplished. The Israelites have returned to their camp and those in Jericho have something to think about. Did the Israelites leave because they were afraid themselves? Are the walls too high? Are we (Jericho) safe now? What are they up to?

For six days the procession was repeated. The psychology has to be horrendous on the Jericho people. They know of the miracles. They know of the recent crossing of the Jordan River. Rahab has already told the two spies of the general mental state of the people - depression, anxiety, fear, and an untold number of other mental stresses on the people.

Their stubbornness continues. For six days, that is the number of mankind, six. Man was created on the sixth day. So for six days man has an opportunity to attack, repent, or hide, and they choose the latter. They are indecisive. They stand on the walls and cannot figure out what the Israelites are up to, yet the Ark of the Covenant is carried before them, in clear view, with horns of victory sounding such that no one can have any excuse of not seeing the Ark.

Did anyone ever ask, 'What is that box? What does it stand for?' But they do not need to ask, because God has already told Joshua that the God of Israel is feared greatly in the land. Not feared with respect, but feared with fear or fright. These people know full well what the Ark stands for. It is God who will do battle and they are on the walls watching and waiting their own doom.

So this is a short passage and seemingly has not much to offer for a spiritual lesson, but it is really telling us that we cannot afford to stand on the sidelines in life and watch life pass us by while we wait for our own doom to catch up to us. But that is exactly what the vast majority of people on this planet do.

People know the facts of life. We all know that people are born and that everyone dies sooner or later. Some in silent sleep of old age, others die in a more dramatic way, and at a much younger age than we all hope to achieve for ourselves.

So death is inescapable. We all know that those of generations past have long since died. Billions of people from history past, since Adam until our current time, have died. This is an inescapable truth. Most ignore it. They stand on the walls of life while the Ark marches past them on a daily basis. Where is the Ark? It is everywhere. In everything that we are exposed to God or His Work or His truth, is that Ark. In birth and in death we all have some reference to truth. In the night sky and the vastness of the universe, there is evidence of God. On many sporting events where we see in the crowd, 'Believe in Christ,' or some such reference. In technology, in science, in the daily rising and setting of the sun, in everything in life there is some reference or indication of God.

Some people take the time to investigate God. Most do not, or most give a casual interest in God. Only when times get tough. When the Indians are circling the wagons of your life, or when you get laid off, or in an accident, divorced, or in some kind of trouble, then you begin to wonder or even call out to some higher form of power. 'Oh, please little magic ticket. Win me the big one tonight!' Some call to God as well.

For those who get their act together, that seventh day of judgment becomes a seventh day of blessing. For others, it become their last breath on earth and maybe even worse if they ignored God completely.

We read our Bibles each day not to achieve some objective which will allow us to discontinue reading the Bible, but to keep God in front of us everyday, to keep ourselves reminded of what our obligation is to God and to ourselves, to keep ourselves in fellowship and to continue advancing in our spiritual lives as well as functioning better in our physical lives. Repetition is the name of the game. Oh, you can still buy your ticket each week. God does have a sense of humor you know!

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
