Joshua 5:10-12

Lesson # Josh. 5:10-12
Study Material - Josh. 5:10-12

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Josh. 5:10-12

10 While the sons of Israel camped at Gilgal, they observed the Passover on the evening of the fourteenth day of the month on the desert plains of Jericho. 11 And on the day after the Passover, on that very day, they ate some of the produce of the land, unleavened cakes and parched grain. 12 And the manna ceased on the day after they had eaten some of the produce of the land, so that the sons of Israel no longer had manna, but they ate some of the yield of the land of Canaan during that year.

The Israelites entered into the land as a vast army, but they did not go immediately into battle array against their first objective, Jericho, they instead obeyed the commands given by God to Joshua. First to be circumcised in order to bring them into compliance with Gods command of faith, and second they were to observe the Passover. The act of Christ on the Cross who died there a spiritual death in payment for our sins, such that God is free to Passover all sins of mankind and look to an eternal relationship with God for all who believe. Then third they were to observe the Feast of the Unleaven Bread, the baked cakes of corn, which, corn, they did not have until they had now entered into the land.

The Israelites ate of the fruit of the land. Corn for sure, but most probably the other production that had been stored in the barns and store houses of those inhabitants who had abandoned their lands and were now hiding and secure (so they thought) behind the city gates of Jericho.

Note several principles of doctrine here. There was plenty of produce in the land. The land though filled with an evil people was still able to produce in abundance. The laws of commerce, of agriculture, and so forth are not restricted to believers alone, but to all of mankind. Man is able to, through his ingenuity, plant and reap as nature permits. Evil people will prosper. They will appear to succeed, but this is superficial only.

Believers advancing to maturity will inherit all that their (the evil people of the world) hands worked for, and far more. The Israelites did not plant not cultivate nor harvest the production of the land. Yet when they arrived there it was already for them, and them alone. Those who try to advance themselves in life will find themselves behind a worthless wall of insecurity. In contrast, those who advance to spiritual maturity find themselves behind the wall of fire. Gods fire. An impenetrable wall of perfect protection and prosperity. We call that wall, fellowship.

The manna the Israelites had received in the desert, which they complained about before they received it and they complained about even after receiving it, was now terminated. They manna is representative of Gods logistical support. God provision of those things we need to get by in life. The basics. Not tremendous prosperity, but while a believer grows up he is in need of certain levels of support to get by in life on a daily basis. The manna came daily and like clock work.

There is an accounting term, 'Just In Time', which is used in the provisions of inventory for manufacturing and such. This is an appropriate term for the daily life of the believer, 'Just In Time'. Often we see life on that level. Things do not come to us in bushel baskets, but seem to come just a little now and a little then, 'just in time'. And that is how a lot of people see life, as they live from pay check to paycheck, or from one problem to the next. There has to be a better life, of course, and there is. But believers need to learn to trust in God, and, above all, study their Bible so that they will advance in their spiritual life, and gain access to that 'better' life in the land of milk and honey - spiritual maturity.

By faith they crossed the Jordan from east to west. A wall of water on their right, the right hand of God. Dry land under their feet for firm support. An act of faith in their actions of circumcision and abiding by the Feasts of the Passover and Unleavened bread. Now resident on the plains of Jericho, patiently awaiting further marching orders, not just itching to get into battle, but patiently and methodically being obedient to Gods commands.

Now is the time to post a prayer.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
