Josh. 3:7-9

Lesson # Josh. 3:7-9
Study Material - Josh. 3:7-9

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Josh. 3:7-9

7 Now the LORD said to Joshua, 'This day I will begin to exalt you in the sight of all Israel, that they may know that just as I have been with Moses, I will be with you. 8 'You shall, moreover, command the priests who are carrying the ark of the covenant, saying, 'When you come to the edge of the waters of the Jordan, you shall stand still in the Jordan.' 9 Then Joshua said to the sons of Israel, 'Come here, and hear the words of the LORD your God.'

God spoke to Joshua. God, 'Yehovah', Jehovah, the self existent one, the eternal one. Jesus Christ is the one who spoke to Joshua, from the tabernacle, just as He had spoken to Moses before him. Joshua is getting his marching orders and told to pass them along to the appropriate persons to whom they apply, the priests.

The priests are to carry the Ark, and to enter the flooding Jordan River, then stop there in the water. I am sure all of us have at some time or another, seen a flooding river. A big river that is. If not in person then perhaps on TV. We should all be aware that if we are ever close to a flooding river that we need to stay out of the water. The currents in a flood are powerful and can and will suck you down into the current where you may never come up again alive. Someone will discover your body downstream sooner or later.

But here the river is at flood stage with powerful currents - a test of faith for sure. More than that they are carrying the Ark. They are to enter the flooding Jordan and then stand still.

That is mans command, stand still. Why? Because God will do all that is necessary for you.. You and I are but to study our Bible everyday, continue in our normal lives, maintain our responsibilities and so forth - you know, brush the teeth, go to work, take the kids to soccer, pay the bills, and whatever else you do in life. But everyday you always, and without any excuses whatsoever, study your Bible. This will keep you alert and on target in your spiritual life.

Christ spoke to Joshua, reassuring him that He, Christ, would be with him. Christ speaks to each one of us as well. You should be able to hear Him if you study your Bible doctrine in a consistent manner. That doctrine in your soul is Christ's voice. His word which you have learned over the years, is your guidance. No voices in from out of the night. Nothing weird like that. If you really do hear voices then you need to take your medication.

Christ guided Joshua, and more. He reassured him, as He reassures each one of us every day. Christ issues commands and we comply. His commands are not that difficult either. 'Tell the priests...', 'walk into the water and stop...', 'stand still'. This is our standing order in life, 'stand still.... And watch what God will do for you today.'

God never commands us to go door to door annoying folks. You know - doing Gods work. God never commands us to point out the faults of others. The error of their ways. By now we should know that pointing out the sins of others will only enlist their defense mechanisms against us. Besides, sin is not the issue, Bible study is. And sooner or later God will, through Bible study, enlighten those who are positive, with regard to their errors.

People generally get their eyes on things, or events. This Jordan crossing is going to be an extraordinary event for sure. People should get their eyes on doctrine, but there are those who need to see the miracles in their personal lives before they will realize that God is really powerful. God helps their faith from time to time. He helps all of our faith levels by giving us little or even great miracles from time to time. Most often those miracles are personal to each of us. Of course there can also be national miracles that affect entire populations. No matter what happens in your life, if it gets you to a consistent program of Bible study, then it is worth it. We just need to remember that the miracles are not the source of your spiritual growth. Daily study of Bible doctrine is that source. Miracles are intended to get your attention, and presumably your positive attention toward God such that you will want to learn more about God and what He can do for you.

There are those however, who will see the miracles and will not respond positively. They will get depressed and all wrapped up in their self pity, missing the entire point of the miracle. Rather than turning their negative attitude to a positive one, they just reinforce their negative attitudes and entrench into it even more. We will see that in the current occupants of the land.

Joshua invited all to 'come and hear the words of the Lord.' And that is just what we are doing every day in our Bible study.

Now is the time to post a prayer.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
