Lesson # Josh. 3:5-6
Study Material - Josh. 3:5-6
You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.
Josh. 3:5-6
5 Then Joshua said to the people, 'Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the LORD will do wonders among you.' 6 And Joshua spoke to the priests, saying, 'Take up the ark of the covenant and cross over ahead of the people.' So they took up the ark of the covenant and went ahead of the people.
Consecrate, 'qadash', to make clean, purify, sanctify, prepare, to set apart, to make holy. This word is tied to other words like holy, hallow, hallowed, holiness, consecrate, saint, sanctify, sanctification. They are all interrelated and have nothing to do with moral character, personality, or such human traits, that might be perceived by those who are ignorant of Bible doctrine as being spiritual. Mankind is ever trying to gain his little foothold inside Gods works in order to help God along. Just in case God needs the help or in case God might have overlooked something, or just to improve Gods plan - from mans point of view.
But here we see the command from Joshua to the people, to consecrate themselves, to prepare themselves for the crossing of the Jordan River which is about to take place. To consecrate themselves means to separate from this world in effect, and prepare themselves to be received by God. Anything that is sanctified or consecrated does in fact become the property of, and belonging to, God.
Any ideas as to what they might be doing to accomplish this?
Confession, fellowship, anything like that, that might ring a bell?
Aaron and his sons were consecrated. Temple construction workers were consecrated. Articles used in the temple were consecrated. Everything that is placed into the service of God must first be consecrated, set apart, purged of all unrighteousness, purged of all filth, washed, cleansed, etc. And that includes you and me.
The nation had to be consecrated for they were about to enter into the promised land, the land of milk and honey, the land of rest, the sphere of spiritual maturity, the sphere of fellowship. God could not and would not use them unless they were compatible with His will. God does not use any of us unless we comply with His will and policy of fellowship. Out of fellowship, we are under the influence of and control of our sin natures. God has nothing to do with sin. And if you are involved in that life style, then God has nothing to do with you.
The priests were commanded to pick up the Ark and to proceed ahead of the people. Jesus Christ is our High Priest. He represents us in heaven. Here priests lift up the Ark symbolizing Gods holiness (righteousness and justice), lifting up the Ark of God (access to God) and carrying it before all the people.
We have but one access to God, and that is through the Cross and Jesus Christ. To be a priest is to receive a holy appointment. To be holy one must be free from sin, justified and sanctified, and once free from sin, then we have access to God. Though the priests carry the Ark, God in fact carries us through life first by means of salvation then subsequent to salvation by means of His word resident inside our soul.
To move forward in life we must look forward. To see Bible doctrine in front of us means that we are advancing, never retreating in life, regardless of our circumstances.
Now is the time to post a prayer.
End Of Lesson
Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
