Josh. 3:1-4

Lesson # Josh. 3:1-4
Study Material - Josh. 3:1-4

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Josh. 3:1-4

1 Then Joshua rose early in the morning; and he and all the sons of Israel set out from Shittim and came to the Jordan, and they lodged there before they crossed. 2 And it came about at the end of three days that the officers went through the midst of the camp; 3 and they commanded the people, saying, 'When you see the ark of the covenant of the LORD your God with the Levitical priests carrying it, then you shall set out from your place and go after it. 4 However, there shall be between you and it a distance of about 2,000 cubits by measure. Do not come near it, that you may know the way by which you shall go, for you have not passed this way before.'

Sooner or later, when you have been faithful in your Bible study, then God will do some amazing things right before your eyes, and in honor of your spiritual growth. The Israelites have crossed the Red Sea, protected by a all of fire, separating them from the on coming Egyptians. They crossed over the flooding Red Sea, on dry ground, which depicts the grace of God in salvation. They were led out of Egypt, the land of slavery. We were slaves to sin and death until we believed in Christ, then we all crossed our Red Sea in our faith expression in Christ. But often believers after initially being saved, go back to their sinful ways. The desert and 40 years of wandering.

We all probably wander in and out of Bible study, mostly never realizing what or where we are going with it all. Some go negative as the Israelites did, And while staying negative they never enter into spiritual maturity and consequently Gods rest. They died, out in the desert, never even seeing the promised land, that state of maturity which we are striving for as we continually study our Bibles daily.

But then we arrive at the Jordan, the brink of maturity, and a new land over which we have never walked before. Here we must follow God to the letter of His commands.

Thus Joshua rose up early in the morning. How does that saying go? Early to rise... Anyway, with Bible study and spiritual growth, you become alert and your energy levels increase. Your attitudes are positive, and you look forward to the tomorrow's, and the things that God will do for you on that next day.

The Jordan was at flood stage. The Israelites were told that they would cross over the Jordan. This is a new generation. One that did not see the crossing over of the Red Sea. They had heard the stories. They had heard the doctrines from Moses. They had seen the cloud and the pillar of fire of Jesus Christ leading them throughout the desert. They had seen the Ark being carried in the middle of the population. They had witnessed the rituals of the sacrifices. Now they were commanded to rise up, remove themselves from where they were in their comfortable tents and move out to the Jordan. They had three days and those days were now up. The spies were back, the reports made. They land was theirs. God had already given it to them.

Likewise maturity belongs to you. God has already given it to you. You have but to get off your backside of comfort and get with a program of Bible study, then claim that prize which is there for the taking. God has done all the work. We benefit as a result.

The officers went through the camp and notified all of the commands God had already given to Joshua. Joshua has already been appointed the leader, but as we will soon see, Christ will meet him in battle armor and let it be known that He Christ is the commander, not Joshua. Likewise, the people will see that Moses is no longer with them, and Joshua is now Gods appointed leader. They need to follow him. We cannot ever get comfortable with things in life. Life here on earth changes, and we need to adapt. By emphasizing Bible doctrine in our lives then God will always provide a source of Bible study, leadership, guidance and so forth for each one of us. And if you happen to be a leader of sorts, then you need to realize that you are that leader only by the grace of God. Not from your own abilities.

The Israelites were commanded to move out when they saw the Ark moving forward. They were not to get any closer than about 1000 yards, about 900 meters, a little over a half mile. Regardless of the environment, God is perfectly safe. Though He is far out in front of the procession, nothing under creation could hinder or interfere in any way what God has planed. God does not depend on man to move His plan forward. God works without regard to anything under creation.

Likewise, and especially when we approach spiritual maturity, we need to keep our focus and our eyes on Bible doctrine. God is the leader. This time of crossing over, is especially trying and can be a test of faith. Before us is the flooding Jordan, a world in rage - storms, catastrophe, politics, economics, social pressure, the list goes on. On the other side are even more tests, but there are many blessings as well. It is easy to get your eyes off of God and onto the flooding Jordan's in our life, and then hesitate about crossing over. But with continued Bible study and growth, our courage brings us right up to the edge and across without any effort all.

Our future is like all of that ground where we have never traveled across before, but with a steady program of Bible study, the trip is pleasant and exciting to say the least. And perhaps we will all be able to quote Isa. 64:3, seeing things that we never expected to see.

Now is the time to post a prayer.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
