Josh. 2:8-11

Lesson # Josh. 2:8-11
Study Material - Josh. 2:8-11

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Josh. 2:8-11

8 Now before they lay down, she came up to them on the roof, 9 and said to the men, 'I know that the LORD has given you the land, and that the terror of you has fallen on us, and that all the inhabitants of the land have melted away before you. 10 For we have heard how the LORD dried up the water of the Red Sea before you when you came out of Egypt, and what you did to the two kings of the Amorites who were beyond the Jordan, to Sihon and Og, whom you utterly destroyed. 11 And when we heard it, our hearts melted and no courage remained in any man any longer because of you; for the LORD your God, He is God in heaven above and on earth beneath.

Deu. 11:25, God will lay fear on all men in the land. Psa. 111:4, The works of God and those He uses will be wonders and remembered. Psa. 145:6, the power of God and the source of the miracles for the Israelites will be remembered and acknowledged.

So we now arrive at the knowledge that the spies were going to learn from their reconnaissance. The enemy not only in Jericho, but in all the land, was well aware of their victories over the past 40 years. From the passage out of Egypt until now. The reputation of the Israelites had preceded them into the land. But more than that, the reputation of God had preceded them. The Canaanites were in total fear and full of anxieties, such that they were just sick with the thought of their pending destruction.

Here they had two choices, and had these choices for 40 years. To remain as they are or change and turn to God. Rahab recognized the issues and changed. Very few, if any changed as she did. The population was trapped in their own arrogance and rejection of God. The sin nature is extremely powerful and can control your life, but only if you allow it to. Everyone has the opportunity to make the change to Bible doctrine. Everyone has the information with which to make that decision.

God and His miracles, were common knowledge to the peoples of Canaan and Jericho. So they did have information, yet they chose their wicked ways instead. Be sure you do not think of these peoples as just some innocent bystanders, normal and nice people that happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Far be it from that. The peoples knew of the prophecy of their own pending destruction. The prophecy given by Noah concerning Canaan and its destruction. So their was a foregone conclusion that they were going to be destroyed.

Normal people would seek a way out of the jam. These were not normal people. They were caught up in extreme wickedness as those in Sodom and Gomorrah were caught up in their wickedness. God had determined their judgment and the hand of the Israelites was the tool God was going to use to accomplish the judgment of the Canaanites.

Fear totally destroys courage. Lack of doctrine in the soul destroys courage. The courage that a negative person, a bully type is really a phony courage, not real, because there is no foundation upon which to base the courage. A believer with doctrine in the soul has real courage because it is based on doctrine first of all, and confidence second. Courage is the knowledge that what you are doing is right and that God will see you through to the proper conclusion. This does not mean that you will live through the task, but rather means that Gods goals will be accomplished regardless of your actions.

The Israelites will invade and be successful despite their failures. Their objectives are not dependent on their own actions, but those of God. And God is always successful. These spies will take back with them, not the military dispositions of the people of Jericho, but the mental state of mind of the peoples. Frightened people are a defeated people. People without doctrine are a defeated people. Tyrants come and go. They never remain for long. Sooner or later they will meet their judgment and doom.

Rahab sums it all up. God is 'the' God of heaven and earth. She was clear on her doctrine. She lived inside a wicked society and still had correct information concerning God. Bible doctrine is available everywhere. If your are positive toward God, His word will make its way to you. Nothing can prevent it. If a person is truly negative, then they will never find Bible doctrine even when it is right in front of them.

Now is the time to post a prayer.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
