Josh. 1:10-11

Lesson # Josh. 1:10-11
Study Material - Josh. 1:10-11

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Josh. 1:10-11

10 Then Joshua commanded the officers of the people, saying, 11 'Pass through the midst of the camp and command the people, saying, 'Prepare provisions for yourselves, for within three days you are to cross this Jordan, to go in to possess the land which the LORD your God is giving you, to possess it.'

Now Joshua has full command, and he hurriedly issues the command to his underlings, to notify the peoples of their obligation to take place in three days.

The Israelites are spread out over the hillsides for quite some distance. It would take some time to notify everyone of the pending camp movement. There are nearly 2 million Israelites in the camp, therefore organization was necessary in order to accomplish the notices.

Joshua had his commanders, who would notify the tribes, who would in turn notify the various groups within the tribes, until all families in the camp had received the notice.

The orders were clear. That in three days the entire camp would break and would cross over the Jordan River to begin the conquest of the land promised to Abraham centuries before.

Joshua commands them to prepare provisions. He does not command them to prepare transport for their belongings, only food. The old things will be left behind. New things will be provided after they cross over the river and enter into the land.

Christ went to the Cross, paid the price for our sins, then was resurrected on the third day. Before Christ went doctrine, just as before these peoples will go the Ark. When we cross over into our salvation through our faith in Christ, we leave behind the old and take on the new. The sin nature represents the old. That which is to be discarded and not allowed into the new land which we enter into. Our new land is our spiritual life. Based on our receiving a human spirit regenerated in us at the point of our belief in Christ, and the imputation of eternal life in our human spirit, these together with the many other blessings given us at the point of our salvation faith expression, give us a new life. Making us a new spiritual species in this universe.

The Israelites will cross the Jordan in the flood season, but their feet will not be wet. The ground will be dry. Therefore their baptism again is a waterless one, where the path will be cleared by God and made apparent to all who choose to cross.

God is giving this land. God is the provider of all that we have, regardless of what we might think of ourselves, or the abilities we perceive we have. Even those abilities were a gift from God.

Joshua makes it clear that they will go into the land and take is for a possession. This is not a temporary visit, but a permanent one. There is no question of whether they might take it, but that they will with a certainty take it.

God gives and sometimes it is very clear as to the outcome. In this case Joshua was given specific commands and promises with assurances of the results. We live by faith, and too we have assurances of results in our spiritual life, but only of we are consistent in our Bible study and spiritual advancement. Given that, then we will be successful in life and prosperous, contented and stabilized in our lives. Apart from doctrine there exists uncertainty and insecurity.

God promised the Israelites that they would with certainty possess the land. Only their failure in faith will prevent them from claiming all that was promised. It will not be until the second advent of Christ when the entire land will be finally claimed. We too have our promises, but our lack of consistency in Bible study, and therefore a weak faith, are generally the biggest reason for our not attaining the blessings that we should attain in life. We are our own worst enemy, preventing ourselves from advancing by our own negative or apathetic attitude.

Joshua was a busy man now. With huge responsibilities over a nation of people who had no home at the present, and was about to march into a possessed land and take it away from its present occupants. Yet with all these responsibilities and certainly a huge number of duties to deal with, he was still expected to study his scriptures, as previously commanded. High office is of no use when Bible doctrine is not present in ones soul. Bible doctrine is to be first in our lives. We are to make room for it daily, just as we make room for all the other things we do daily.

Now is the time to post a prayer.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
