Josh. 1:2-7
Lesson # Josh. 1:2-7
Study Material - Josh. 1:2-7
You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.
Josh. 1:2-7
2 'Moses My servant is dead; now therefore arise, cross this Jordan, you and all this people, to the land which I am giving to them, to the sons of Israel. 3 Every place on which the sole of your foot treads, I have given it to you, just as I spoke to Moses. 4 From the wilderness and this Lebanon, even as far as the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and as far as the Great Sea toward the setting of the sun, will be your territory. 5 No man will be able to stand before you all the days of your life. Just as I have been with Moses, I will be with you; I will not fail you or forsake you. 6 Be strong and courageous, for you shall give this people possession of the land which I swore to their fathers to give them. 7 Only be strong and very courageous; be careful to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, so that you may have success wherever you go.
The call to move forward. 'Arise', end the mourning. Moses is dead. You have grieved enough, now there is business at hand. A nation of people is ready to claim their territory. The land given to them by God. The land from the Nile to the Euphrates, from ocean to ocean, including the lands of the Hittites or present day Turkey. All the land promised to Abraham. All the land implied as given to Shem by Noah as an inheritance. But there are intruders in the land. People who do not deserve it. The Canaanites, those cursed through Ham, descendants of Ham, who moved into the land without permission. Peoples who rejected God for centuries and have degenerated into a very wicked society.
Cross over the Jordan, and take possession. Thus God gives Joshua his commission and objective. And, on top of it all, God gives His assurance that if Joshua continues to follow His commands, continues to be obedient to Gods word, then Joshua will be successful in all that he does. Everywhere he walks, he will be successful.
So too, in our pursuit of Bible doctrine, is a challenge from God to seek God first and then our days will be filled with success. Psa. 23, our cups will overflow with prosperity and blessing. Prosperity will pursue us. We do not have to pursue prosperity. God gives into Joshua's hands, the land, even before the battles have begun. The Canaanites have been defeated already. God has determined the outcome.
So, too, in our lives our future has been predetermined to a certain extent. If we follow Bible doctrine in our lives, then the battles we face will be won, they have already been won. Blessings, the spoils of victory will go to the victors. But, if we disregard doctrine in our lives, then battles will be lost and the spoils of misery will be our reward.
The command and assurance comes in verse 7. Be strong, be courageous, follow doctrine, obey Gods laws. And no one will be able to stand before you. No one will be able to prevent you from succeeding. What God ordains, no one can alter. If God has given you victory, then nothing can defeat you. If God has ordained a loss, then nothing can prevent it.
So, here is assurance, in each of our lives. If we are consistent in our Bible study, as Joshua was to be obedient to all of Gods commands, then our lives will be filled with victory after victory. God has decreed in eternity past all that is to happen in history. Review the decrees chart on the index page. So your best options in life begin with your compliance to Gods Word. To gain compliance you have to learn what it is you are to comply with. And the only way you learn is to study regularly, and cycle doctrine through your soul by applying it to your life.
You are not to turn to the left or the right in your life. But remain consistent in your Bible study and avoid following your sin natures lusts and other desires of worldly things. God commanded, Moses commanded, and now we have the commands, the entire written content of scripture from Genesis to Revelation.
Regardless of the situations in our life, it is time now, to arise and look forward for the rest of our lives. We cannot change the failures or losses of yesterday. But we can change the future to our advantage. Positive volition toward Bible doctrine gives us the edge. Those who are negative toward doctrine have to hustle through life and they will lose all they have in the end. Those who are positive toward Bible doctrine have everything given to them in time. Nothing happens instantly, but your life is not just for the moment, but forever. You need to make the right decisions each day, over and over again, for Bible doctrine. And as God states, 'so that you will have success wherever you go'.
Now is the time to post a prayer.
