You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.
Jonah 2:4
4 Then I said [amar], I am cast out [garash] of thy sight [ayin]; yet I will look [nabat] again [yacaph] toward thy holy [qodesh] temple [heykal]. KJV-Interlinear 4 'So I said, 'I have been expelled from Thy sight. Nevertheless I will look again toward Thy holy temple.' NASB
Drowning in the cold ocean waters, Jonah had probably only a few minutes to bring his thoughts into some semblance of order. His first thoughts were of death. He thought he was definitely going to die.
He did not call out in anger. He did not cry out in a panic. His first thoughts were of his own failure and that this is the price to be paid for turning ones back on God.
When a person lives their life outside of fellowship, then they live their life inside of the temporal jungle environment. In the jungle you are subject to the laws of the jungle, and God permits this function if that is what you choose. By ignoring God you are in effect choosing to live apart from His power and protection. Thus the jungle is your domain.
Inside of the fellowship sphere you are still physically in the jungle, but you also have that supernatural wall of fire of Gods protection surrounding you. In fellowship you reside in Gods palace. You are continually in His presence. You have perpetual communion with God. God is your shield, your fortress, your protection from all that opposes God.
In the jungle there is nothing and no one to come to your rescue. When you sink, you sink into oblivion, into a zone apart from God, where there is no order, no rule, no good life of any kind.
Jonah's first order of thinking was his confession, his recovery from his attitude of sin and looking back again to the truth which God presents in life.
Apart from God there is no life, there is no present, there is no future.
Jonah looked back to the holy temple of God. Holiness comes from the combination of Gods righteousness and Gods justice. This is Gods flawless essence of perfection. Righteousness represents Gods prefect character without flaws, without blemishes. Totally sin free. Justice is the cleansing act of washing the filth of life away (sin). God will have nothing to do with anything which is less than perfect.
The temple is the content of the spiritual life. Gods doctrine, His essence, His spiritual life which He makes available to each one of us. The temple is the vessel, the building, the container, the sum total of the spiritual phenomena that makes up the spiritual side of life.
Jonah was in a fix. Life was swirling past him and his end was very close. Jonah was helpless, and in a very hopeless situation. The world was not going to reach out to help him. Only divine intervention would save his life.
1 Sam. 26:24
24 Now behold, as your life was highly valued in my sight this day, so may my life be highly valued in the sight of the LORD, and may He deliver me from all distress.' NASB
Psa. 18:6
6 In my distress I called upon the LORD, And cried to my God for help; He heard my voice out of His temple, And my cry for help before Him came into His ears. NASB
Psa. 11:4
4 The LORD is in His holy temple; the LORD'S throne is in heaven; His eyes behold, His eyelids test the sons of men. NASB
Psa. 18:6
6 In my distress I called upon the LORD, And cried to my God for help; He heard my voice out of His temple, And my cry for help before Him came into His ears. NASB
All good verses to learn and memorize. Never know when you might fall overboard in life.
Jonah did the only thing that made sense in his situation. He looked to God for help. And, he looked to God in humility. He did not blame. He did not become angry. He did not yell curses, thinking that somehow he would scare God into feeling sorry for Him. He submitted himself to Gods overriding will.
God could take his life and remove him from this earth. Or, God could deliver him. In either case Jonah was going to accept Gods final decision.
Gods holy temple (which we defined above) is the only rational and logical place to look to for meaning and purpose in ones life. The temple is not made of brick, and wood, and steel. It is not of this world. Gods temple is inside of your soul ... if ... you maintain a daily Bible study and grow up in your spiritual life ... and ... remain obedient to God throughout your entire life, applying and utilizing His word in your daily life.
Now is the time to post a prayer.
End Of Lesson
Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
