Joel 3:15-17

Lesson # Joel 3:15-17 Study Material - Joel 3:15-17 You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth. Joel 3:15-17 15 The sun [shemesh] and the moon [yareach] shall be darkened [qadar] , and the stars [kowkab] shall withdraw [acaph] their shining [nogahh] . 16 The LORD [Yahovah] also shall roar [sha'ag] out of Zion [Tsiyown] , and utter [nathan] his voice [qowl] from Jerusalem [Yaruwshalaim] ; and the heavens [shamayim] and the earth [erets] shall shake [ra`ash] : but the LORD [Yahovah] will be the hope [machaceh] of his people [am] , and the strength [ma`owz] of the children [ben] of Israel [Yisra'el] . 17 So shall ye know [yada] that I am the LORD [Yahovah] your God [elohiym] dwelling [shakan] in Zion [Tsiyown] , my holy [qodesh] mountain [har] : then shall Jerusalem [Yaruwshalaim] be holy [qodesh] , and there shall no strangers [zuwr] pass through [abar] her any more. KJV-Interlinear 15 The sun and moon grow dark, And the stars lose their brightness. 16 And the LORD roars from Zion And utters His voice from Jerusalem, And the heavens and the earth tremble. But the LORD is a refuge for His people And a stronghold to the sons of Israel. 17 Then you will know that I am the LORD your God, Dwelling in Zion My holy mountain. So Jerusalem will be holy, And strangers will pass through it no more. NASB The scene is set. Masses of humanity have arrived at the final battle field, fighting and scrapping and swearing all of the way. The objective and even the reasons for being there are not clear to anyone (any human that is). They are just there because they have been caught up in a world full of hate and selfishness, and it has all climaxed in the ultimate violence. Isa. 13:10-12 10 For the stars of heaven and their constellations Will not flash forth their light; The sun will be dark when it rises, And the moon will not shed its light. 11 Thus I will punish the world for its evil, And the wicked for their iniquity; I will also put an end to the arrogance of the proud, And abase the haughtiness of the ruthless. 12 I will make mortal man scarcer than pure gold, NASB Then at the last moments of the fight, probably just before the last charge of humanity against humanity, the sky (worldwide) begins to grow dark. In the daytime, the suns light begins to fade. On the other side of the earth, in the night sky, the moonlight and the starlight begin to fade. It is a significant loss of light which is now getting everyone's attention. The war is halted. All of the peace overtures, all of the bombs, all of the attitude in mankind couldn't stop the shooting, but within the space of a few moments God catches everyone's attention. All light is ceased, and there falls upon the earth, the second of two supernatural darknesses in all of history. You will recall that the first supernatural darkness came during those three hours between noon and three p.m. when Christ was judged on the Cross. And that was followed by a very violent earthquake. Now again, the earth is called to attention. The world is dark because the spiritual state of the world has faded into nothingness. Man cannot see truth in spirit, therefore God placed a darkness over everyone's eyes, so they truly now cannot see. There is also a second reason for this darkness. Well, actually there several reasons, but we'll just look at a couple or so of them. The first is to accomplish and stoppage of all aggression. The second is to get everyone's attention. The third, is to provide additional safety for those believers who are defending Jerusalem, and for those believers who have been hiding in the mountains (and anywhere else). And fourth, this is the sign, the last and final sign of Christ's return which is just about to occur. In heaven, God shouts (figuratively) 'Enough.' Christ rises from His Throne and launches a charge toward planet earth and the deliverance of all believers who are to be saved. The earth meanwhile, shrouded in a total darkness (no light - nothing can be seen by anyone), experiences a tremendous worldwide earthquake. Being in a very violent earthquake where everything around you is falling of breaking apart has to be terrifying, but when you cannot see anything, but will hear everything - the sounds of the earthquake, the sounds of the crashing, and tearing and ripping apart, and the screams of dying of people around you but still you cannot see any of it. And you don't have a clue as to what your situation is going to be. Will something fall on you? Will the earth open up and swallow you up? Terror is the command of God here. To those who have believed in Christ there is awe, reassurance and safety in all of this. To those who have rejected God, there is the total unknown. They have launched themselves into this conflict with the mind set of animals (locusts). They act like animals and they will react like animals with terror, fright and panic. Their thinking process is totally shot. So, who will know that the Lord, is, the Lord? Believers worldwide. Positive believers worldwide. And who will not know it, or better yet, who will not care? All negative believers who have sided with the warring factions, and certainly all unbelievers who have rejected God for whatever reason. Right now, they will be in total shock. Such is arrogance. Once it thought it could accomplish anything (knower of all, seer of all), but then something simple like the lights going out, puts arrogance in its place of nothingness. The ultimate truth in life? There is only one God, and Jesus Christ is 'the' God. There is only one truth, and Zion (again figuratively) is that mountain of truth (our Bible). There is only one residence of perfect rest, and Jerusalem (figurative) is that city of peace and perfect happiness. Why? Because Zion (doctrine) resides inside that city (doctrine inside of your soul - spiritual maturity). And there is only one means of access to all of this truth, and faith in Christ followed by continual fellowship with God is that only access path. All of the philosophies of mankind, of all of the beliefs which man can invent, all of the other false gods (the Buddha's, the Allah's, etc.), that anyone can invent or imagine, all of the false concepts of security and safety and sources of happiness that you can dream up (wealth, heritage, ancestry, oneness with whatever you want to be one with), all of these and more, are for nothing when the final verdict of your individual life, or that of human history, come to their end. Anything anti-God always leads to violence, destruction, and death. We studied the sole most important decision of your life, where everything else makes no difference, and that is, you must choose either for Christ or choose against Him. Your thoughts, decisions, and actions of life make your choice clear to all. End of lesson. Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
