Joel 2:26-27

Lesson # Joel 2:26-27
Study Material - Joel 2:26-27

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Joel 2:26-27

26 And ye shall eat [akal] in plenty [akal] , and be satisfied [saba] , and praise [halal] the name [shem] of the LORD [Yahovah] your God [elohiym] , that hath dealt [asah] wondrously [pala] with you: and my people [am] shall never [owlam] be ashamed [buwsh] .
27 And ye shall know [yada] that I am in the midst [qereb] of Israel [Yisra'el] , and that I am the LORD [Yahovah] your God [elohiym] , and none else: and my people [am] shall never [owlam] be ashamed [buwsh] . KJV-Interlinear

26 'And you shall have plenty to eat and be satisfied, And praise the name of the LORD your God, Who has dealt wondrously with you; Then My people will never be put to shame. 27 'Thus you will know that I am in the midst of Israel, And that I am the LORD your God And there is no other; And My people will never be put to shame. NASB

Who are Gods people? Those who have been born to Abraham (his descendants)? Or those who believe in the Savior (Jesus Christ)? The latter answer is the correct one. Believers in Christ become the members of Gods family and come under the category of, 'My people.'

These are identified back in verse 23, 'sons of Zion.' Zion is the mountain in Jerusalem, the city of peace. The mountain is representative of Gods Word.

This passage, though Joel is giving it to those who live in Judah, the Southern Kingdom, applies to all believers throughout the ages. This is going to be an especially important message to those believers of the future who will be trying to survive in the Tribulation, under the most horrendous conditions ever.

Those who pursue the things of this world, will never be satisfied. Those who pursue the Word of God and grow up spiritually as we have seen time and time again, will have everything they ever want, and more.

Does this mean that you are going to become a billionaire in this life? No.

Our purpose on this earth is to prepare ourselves for our eternal life. Our first preparation is of course being saved so we do not end up in the Lake of Fire. After that we prepare ourselves spiritually (day by day) as we grow up to spiritual maturity.

The world will swirl around us always. Problems will never stop. As Jesus stated in Revelation, and elsewhere, these things must take place. Why? Because God allows the free will mankind to function and that means people will reject God, and turn to other philosophies. This means that there will be crime, atrocities, economic problems, all kinds of political views, and so forth. The world is filled with numerous attitudes and beliefs. Problems are inevitable.

But by looking to God, we can escape the brunt of these problems, knowing that our deliverance will always be there sooner or later. God is the source of 'plenty.' He will always provide us with what we need in order that we can grow up spiritually. We will always have the opportunity to prepare ourselves for eternity (our most important preparation objective).

During history and in the last days, those who reject God, and even those believers who become discouraged and end up turning their back on God, all these will come to know that God is God. That there is no other god (no Allah, no Buddha, no guru), nobody who will be there when we depart this life.

They will come to know, that God is always there for those who belong to Him. God will never abandon us, never turn away (permanently) from believers. He will discipline us in order to get us back on track, but He will never abandon us permanently. Sooner or later when we come face to face with death (that is a certainty for us all), then God will be there to collect us and take us to heaven.

Any shame we might endure in this life will eventually be removed totally. We have numerous shames in this life. We have physical bodies with our odors and waste. We have our weird ideas which make us silly in Gods eyes. We pursue our own goals, ignoring God. We make mistakes in life - we all make mistakes. Lots of little mistakes, and occasionally we make really big whopper mistakes.

But at death, all these and more, will evaporate from our existence. They will be no more.

Though in life there are those who will look at you and prod you for proof of 'your God.' 'Where is He? Prove that He is here. Show us! Where are your riches?' And so forth.

We do not have to prove anything. Those who are positive and want to learn of God, will sit down and learn a little each day. And then God Himself will prove to them He is the one and only God of the universe.

Those who are positive will wait for answers if something they learn is not quite clear. After all we don't learn a lifetime of doctrine in a day or two.

Those who are impatient will drift away. 'I don't believe that. I don't agree with that. I think that there is plenty of room for other ideas.' And so forth.

God finishes this passage out - Those who belong to Him will never be put to shame. Though there are many who will roll their eyes at you for your belief, that is their stupidity, their shame. Just wait until eternity kicks in. When will that be? When you die. Could be today, tomorrow, thirty years from now. Everyone's life span is Gods prerogative.

Today there are probably four generations alive on this earth. If you have an infant child that is the first generation, then there is the parent (say 20'ish), and their parents (40'ish) and the grand parents (60'ish) and maybe even great grand parents (80'ish years old). The World War II crowd is fading from the scene. The World War I generation (in their 20's during that war) is all gone. Everyone in history prior to that is dead. They are no longer alive. That covers several thousand years.

So, we will fade out as a generation. We did not inherit eternal life just because we are alive today. We can live our entire life and ignore all the implications of our growing old, and then discover our tremendous loss when it is too late.

Or, we can wake up now and discover that we are growing old with every tick of the clock, which means that we are advancing toward our eventual departure time from this earth. Do we prepare for that?

It is interesting that there are folks who follow TV shows or sporting events, or other similar things of interest to them, week to week, year after year, and they can tell you all the details of those things, but they know virtually nothing about the Bible. Which of the two will provide better preparation for eternity?

We are always faced with priorities in life. Bible study should be on top of the list - your daily meal of Gods Word. None of us miss other meals of the day, so why should we skip our daily study?

There is only one God. All, repeat all those other religions are evil and false. Eventually God will destroy them all thoroughly. There is only one way of salvation. All the other ideas of getting into heaven are evil and false. There is only one way to grow up spiritually, and you simply have to decide to get with a daily study program in order to accomplish it.

In the end, as a believer, as a mature believer I should say, there will be tremendous blessing and absolutely no shame. As a negative believer, you will lose out on tremendous blessings and will be somewhat embarrassed. As an unbeliever, you will suffer the most horrible shame and you'll suffer it forever. That is definitely not a good thing.

End of lesson.

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
