Joel 2:7-10

Lesson # Joel 2:7-10
Study Material - Joel 2:7-10

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Joel 2:7-10

7 They shall run [ruwts] like mighty men [gibbowr] ; they shall climb [alah] the wall [chowmah] like men [enowsh] of war [milchamah] ; and they shall march [yalak] every one [iysh] on his ways [derek] , and they shall not break [abat] their ranks [orach] :
8 Neither shall one [iysh] thrust [dachaq] another [ach] ; they shall walk [yalak] every one [geber] in his path [macillah] : and when they fall [naphal] upon the sword [shelach] , they shall not be wounded [batsa] .
9 They shall run to and fro [shaqaq] in the city [iyr] ; they shall run [ruwts] upon the wall [chowmah] , they shall climb up [alah] upon the houses [bayith] ; they shall enter in [bow] at the windows [challown] like a thief [gannab] .
10 The earth [erets] shall quake [ragaz] before [paniym] them; the heavens [shamayim] shall tremble [ra`ash] : the sun [shemesh] and the moon [yareach] shall be dark [qadar] , and the stars [kowkab] shall withdraw [acaph] their shining [nogahh] : KJV-Interlinear

7 They run like mighty men; They climb the wall like soldiers; And they each march in line, Nor do they deviate from their paths. 8 They do not crowd each other; They march everyone in his path. When they burst through the defenses, They do not break ranks. 9 They rush on the city, They run on the wall; They climb into the houses, They enter through the windows like a thief. 10 Before them the earth quakes, The heavens tremble, The sun and the moon grow dark, And the stars lose their brightness. NASB

When Egypt was hit with the hordes of locusts, Ex. 10:5-6, no house was spared from their presence. Both that of Pharaoh, and his servants and the general public. No one could keep them out of their homes no matter how well they sealed up the doors and windows.

When the locusts come up out of the bottomless pit in the Tribulation (these are huge numbers of demons) they will be unstoppable. For five months they will torment the population of the world. No one will die from their particular assault, but the tormenting will be horrendous with all the stings and bites and such that will be inflicted on unbelieving mankind.

Those who have a commission from God (permission), then nothing and no one can stop them. Any opposition will prove fruitless and hopeless.

Those who fear will turn pale. Those who despair will look black in their hopelessness. Sudden fright and extreme terror turns one from pale to blackness in the soul. Those things that man takes pride in, the things of life, the accomplishments, the assets, the human resources, the arrogance of thought which presses one to thinking that he is invincible or just some awesome power to contend with, are made worthless and impotent when faced with the judgment of God.

Figurative expressions describe the life of the one who is under judgment The earth quakes and the heavens tremble, even the hearts that seemed undaunted, so firm that nothing would frighten them, as immovable as heaven or earth, shall be seized with astonishment, terror, and gloom. Or when the inhabitants of the land are made to quake it seems to them as if everything around them trembled too. Through the prevalence of their fear, or for want of the supports of life which they used to have, their eyes wax dim and their sight fails them, so that to them the sun and moon shall seem to be darkened, and the stars seem to withdraw all their shining.

The entire world, from earth below to sky above, quivers (shakes and trembles) before the thunderous battle cry of the divine Commander. This cosmic response is a typical poetic description of the Lord's theophany as Warrior (Judge. 5:4, Ps 18:7, 77:18, Isa. 13:13; Joel 3:16). The darkening of the heavenly bodies (2:2, 30, 3:15) is another characteristic of the Lord's day (Isa. 13:10, Ezek. 32:7, Zech. 14:6-7, Isa. 34:4). The prophet concluded with a rhetorical question (Who can endure it?). This suggests that no one can endure this great and dreadful day (Mal. 3:2; 4:5). No one!

No one can stand before God, or the judgments that God permits to be unleashed against mankind. We might think that we can defend ourselves against insects with our modern pesticides and such, but maybe our enemy will be a virus (something deadly), or perhaps it will be our arrogant thinking in liberal thought and that will lead to unprecedented economic disasters. Or perhaps it will be something simple like a seizure and paralysis which totally disrupts ones individual life.

God has lots of weapons with which to use against us as a nation or as individuals.

No matter what you have in life, no matter who you think you are in life, no matter how well off you are in life, if you are negative toward God, then you are defenseless against God and the enemies He will allow to be unleashed against you.

Your only defense and protection against Gods judgment, is Gods protection. Your only means of access to that protection is through your being positive toward God, through your daily Bible study, through your persistent and continued and un-daunting obedience to Gods will. You learn that (what Gods will is) through your study.

Your fear of losing access to God and His protection needs to become real in your life. If you do not fear God, nor anything which He can bring against you, then you will be facing big trouble sooner or later. God is patient, but will not be patient forever. The longer you hold out in your spiritual life, the greater the pain and loss you'll no doubt face one day.

End of lesson.

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
