Job 22:10-11
10 Therefore snares [pach] are round about [cabiyb]
thee, and sudden [pith'owm] fear [pachad] troubleth [bahal] thee;
11 Or darkness [choshek], that thou
canst not see [ra'ah]; and abundance [shiph`ah] of waters [mayim] cover [kacah] thee. KJV-Interlinear
10 'Therefore snares surround
you, And sudden dread terrifies you, 11
Or darkness, so that you cannot see, And an abundance of water covers you. NASB
When Job was speaking of the ferocity of his sufferings,
he was meaning something quite different than what Eliphaz is now suggesting.
To live in this world apart from God, there is nothing
but fear, no security, no future, nothing worthwhile to look forward to in this
life. And even if one is wealthy throughout
ones life, the end will result is exactly what you have invested your life in,
namely nothing.
Eliphaz is now suggesting that Job is in fear because
of his sins and because of the terrible suffering he has been made to endure.
And so Eliphaz states what any person who does not
really know the truth of life will say, and that is, 'God is going to get you!'
This is a favorite line of most spiritually deficient
people.
'God is going to deal with you!'
'You are going to go to hell for that!'
'You are going to burn for that!'
'Better duck or lightning is going to strike you
dead!'
Spiritually deficient people like to place themselves
in Gods place and make the decisions for him.
They want to see you squirm. And
the power of their words, or so they think, is all it takes to defeat you.
Snares, dread, darkness and waters, are all terms of
overwhelming calamities.
Job has certainly been overwhelmed with calamities,
and Eliphaz is interpreting all of them as Gods judgment against Job because of
his sinful life. To him, Eliphaz, it
just seems obvious.
Furthermore, Eliphaz is not just suggesting that these
calamities are by chance or random, but that God has actually set snares, purposeful
traps, to catch and punish Job. That God
is actually and actively pursuing Job because of his sins.
Eliphaz is telling Job what God is doing to him and
why, and Eliphaz is telling Job what his, Jobs, feelings are and why.
Rather than depending on facts, Eliphaz is
interpreting things the way he wants to see them, rather than on the way things
actually are.
And, Eliphaz suggests one more thought here, a thought,
which is correct for spiritually negative people, but does not apply to
Job. That thought is, that of the
darkness that he mentions.
This is actually the transition of light into
darkness. The light being that which the
negative person presumes that he is living in, and the darkness is the
reality. When the end finally comes on a
wicked person, their life style suddenly appears to them as it actually is.
Spiritually negative people believe that they are
living in the light of enlightenment, because whatever it is that they are
doing, seems to continue on in their life, without interruption.
Everyone in this world has access to truth. Whether it is the knowledge between right and
wrong, good verses evil, lawful verses criminal and so forth, everyone knows
what they are doing and they know its condition.
For example, a terrorist knows that murder is wrong,
but they justify murder by hiding behind a veil of religious righteousness. A homosexual knows the meaning and purpose of
the male, female relationship, but they choose to ignore it.
And you can apply this concept of knowledge between
right from wrong to every sin and truth combination you can think of.
When people are so negative, then God will allow them
to believe whatever it is that they want to believe. They are going to anyway. Their beliefs become their light, their truth,
their reality. But their light, their
truths, their realities are really lies.
And all lies are in fact darkness.
A darkness, which prevents one from seeing the error of their ways. And this darkness is pursued by their own
choice.
And thus sooner or later, everyone who has ignored
truth during their life, will finally witness their very own light, their very
own beliefs, turn into the darkness that it is, right before their eyes. And then generally it will be too late.
Now is the time to post a prayer.
End Of Lesson
Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
