Job 21:20-21
20 His eyes [`ayin] shall see [ra'ah] his destruction [kiyd], and
he shall drink [shathah] of the wrath [chemah] of the Almighty [Shadday].
21 For what pleasure [chephets] hath he in his house [bayith] after ['achar] him, when the number [micpar] of his months [chodesh] is
cut off in the midst [chatsats]? KJV-Interlinear
20 'Let his own eyes see his
decay, And let him drink of the wrath of the Almighty. 21 'For what does he care for his household
after him, When the number of his months is cut off? NASB
Through their examples of principle, Jobs friends have
suggested that Jobs problems and those of his family, have all originated
because of Jobs sins. And though their
principles are correct in themselves, their application against Job is
challenged by Job.
The wicked person, or as we have been using the
phrase, 'spiritually negative' person, in order to better clarify the broad
spectrum of people to whom these principles apply, then the wicked person should
see their own punishment, and know it for what it is. So says Job.
And this simply means that the punishment assigned to
any given person, should belong to that person only and to no one else.
But, Job says, 'shall see' which means that during the
course of everyone's life, they either recognize God and the laws of life in
this life, or they ignore them.
Spiritually negative people, choose to be
negative. They choose to ignore
God. They choose to pursue other avenues
in life. They fancy themselves as being
wise in their choices. They even flatter
themselves of having lived a life of their own choosing.
For some, their poor choices in life come to their
attention near the end of their life, or even perhaps at some point during
their life. But for most of the
spiritually negative people in this world, their eyes are not opened until the
moment of their death. And it is those
people of whom we are studying.
They are the stubborn, the defiant, the indifferent, or
the self-righteous and so forth.
The negative person has his life shortened. No matter how long they happen to live, their
life would have been fuller, had they chosen for truth, rather than for the
lies of the world. And additional years
of life are not in view here, but the fulfillment of ones spiritual growth is
cut off. And, after one dies, then to
what extent do his cares for this world, exist?
All of his cares, all of his lusts, all of his
agendas, all of his desires cease after the moment of his death. Then he finally sees his failures and failed
life. Everything in life, which seemed
so important, are now recognized as clearly a total waste of his time.
But then, the defiantly negative person will not
discover this until it is too late. The
real danger of all of this is that if you ignore your daily studies, then you
run a very real risk of being this same kind of fool.
Now is the time to post a prayer.
