Job 16:9-10
9 He teareth [taraph] me in his
wrath ['aph], who hateth [satam] me: he gnasheth [charaq]
upon me with his teeth [shen]; mine enemy [tsar] sharpeneth [latash] his
eyes [`ayin] upon me.
10 They have gaped [pa`ar] upon me with their mouth [peh]; they have smitten [nakah]
me upon the cheek [lachiy] reproachfully [cherpah]; they have gathered [male']
themselves together [yachad] against me. KJV-Interlinear
9 'His anger has torn me and
hunted me down, He has gnashed at me with His teeth; My adversary glares at me. 10 'They have gaped at me with their mouth, They
have slapped me on the cheek with contempt;
They have massed themselves against me. NASB
The words in these verses speak to the ferocity of the
predator and prey relationship in the animal world. The jungle in other words.
Anger, torn, hunter, gnashed, adversary, glare, gaped,
slapped, and massed, all speak of the savagery of a pack of animals, in
conspiracy, hunting down its prey, finding the prey, cornering it, glaring at
it with a murderous hunger, pouncing on the prey with extreme violence, and
tearing the prey apart mercilessly in a horrifying and painful death, and
without any conscience, without any remorse.
In the animal world, the predator cares nothing for
the prey. The prey is there only as a
source of contempt, and food. The prey
has no other purpose.
And so it is with Jobs friends, acquaintances, and
even strangers. All who have known Job,
or have known of his reputation, have taken a stand against him. He has no friends, as friends go. Even his three friends who have come to visit
him now, have adopted a bitter and adversarial attitude toward him in their quest
to prove his guilt.
Society has its way with people, and a society without
God, which is the same as being without truth, is no better than life in the jungle
environment.
People look on the outward or exterior of the person,
when making their judgments for or against.
People are generally shallow and superficial. If a person is attractive, talented,
successful, well connected and so forth, then humanity will presume that, that
person is a picture of happiness and success.
Everyone wants to be like them.
And so celebrities have their loyal fans following
their lives. Teams are cheered when they
win.
But watch out if the celebrity or team suddenly falls
into a rut. The boo's come out quickly
and a fickle following turns against them in a heartbeat.
In some cases, good people can fall on heard times and
society will become hateful to the point of violence.
Jesus Christ is the prime example of a celebrity, the
only legitimate celebrity in history by the way, against whom the general
public and bureaucracies alike turned their hate.
Christ of course had every right to hate right back,
but He did not. With no complaint, He
completed what He came, in His first advent, to do. And that was the Cross, wherein He fulfilled
many of these same characteristics, in prophecy, Psa. 35:15, Psa. 22: 13, and Mic.
5:1.
In changing the form from the singular to the plural, Job
describes the common attitude of all who opposed Job, and Christ through this
picture of Job. And therein is the
conspiracy of evil against all that is good.
Truth is truth and it needs nothing else to aid it or
support it in its stand.
Evil is the sum total of all lies, and anything which
is anti-truth is in effect a member of the massive conspiracy against God, merely
because of its common negative attitude toward truth.
Now is the time to post a prayer.
End Of Lesson
Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
