Job 12:7-10
7 But ['uwlam] ask [sha'al] now the beasts [bahemah],
and they shall teach [yarah] thee; and the
fowls [`owph] of the air [shamayim], and they shall tell [nagad]
thee:
8 Or speak [siyach] to the earth ['erets], and it shall teach [yarah]
thee: and the fishes [dag] of the sea [yam] shall declare [caphar] unto
thee.
9 Who knoweth [yada`] not in all
these that the hand [yad] of the LORD [Yahovah] hath wrought [`asah] this?
10 In whose hand [yad] is the soul [nephesh] of every living
thing [chay], and the breath [ruwach] of all mankind ['iysh] [basar]. KJV-Interlinear
7 'But now ask the beasts, and
let them teach you; And the birds of the
heavens, and let them tell you. 8 'Or
speak to the earth, and let it teach you;
And let the fish of the sea declare to you. 9 'Who among all these does not know That the
hand of the Lord has done this, 10 In whose hand is the life of every living
thing, And the breath of all mankind? NASB
This is the ultimate put down of those who think
themselves as wiser than all others.
The animals that walk on the land, the birds that fly
in the air, the fish that swim in the seas, representing all living creatures
that are not human. All of these,
despite their obvious lack of human characteristics, despite their lack of
superior human intelligence, despite their lack of human reasoning abilities,
despite their lack of human intuition, all of these living creatures know of
God and how life works in this world.
Even the earth, with all of its characteristics in
plants, mountains, hills and valleys, oceans and skies filled with clouds,
knows of God and of how life works.
Hab. 1:14
14 Why hast Thou made men like the fish of the sea, Like
creeping things without a ruler over them? NASB
Rom. 8:22-23
22 For we know that the whole creation groans and
suffers the pains of childbirth together until now. NASB
Zophar has earlier said that Gods wisdom was higher
than the heavens, wider than the seas, deeper than the underworld.
Zophar implied that despite the vastness of Gods
wisdom, he, Zophar, had been able to obtain some insight into the workings of
God. Zophar thus must be a very smart
man!
But Job counters with this comment. Gods wisdom is vast, yes, but even the lower
creations, even the inanimate things of this universe have an understanding of
Gods plan.
In other words, Gods wisdom is not designed to be
hidden from man forever, but to be understood, so man can know God, and even
know God intimately. If the lower
creations know and understand God, then man certainly must be able to figure
this Bible stuff, out.
However, man has one thing that the lower creatures do
not have, and that is arrogance.
Arrogance comes in many forms. Some forms are very subtle, and some are
more than obvious. Arrogance becomes the
great barrier to understanding.
So, while cats and dogs and birds can understand life,
and their understanding is very limited, they know more about life, than the
smartest among humanity. Birds migrate
south before winter sets in, ants gather food for the hard times during the
year, and yet people who are significantly smarter than these, cannot bring
themselves to terms with God and their own destiny.
Instead, people try to get by in life by pretending
that God does not exist, or that God is something other than who He really is,
or they make up their own truths about life and these invented ideas will
simply come into existence, making everything that one believes, right.
Man has the potential of being pretty smart, but man
is more than often pretty stupid.
The main cause for stupidity, is indifference, or
rejection, or compromise, or re-inventing Gods Word, so that it is more
convenient with ones life.
Now is the time to post a prayer.
End Of Lesson
Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
