You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.
Job 9:20-21
20 If I justify [tsadaq] myself,
mine own mouth [peh] shall condemn [rasha`] me: if I say, I am perfect [tam], it shall also prove me perverse [`aqash].
21 Though I were perfect [tam], yet would I not know [yada`] my soul [nephesh]: I would despise [ma'ac] my
life [chay].
KJV-Interlinear
20 'Though
I am righteous, my mouth will condemn me;
Though I am guiltless, He will declare me guilty. 21 'I am guiltless; I do not take notice of myself; I despise my life. NASB
Job has already admitted that he is a sinner at the
beginning of chapter six and at the end of chapter seven.
Job, in this chapter, continues in his reference to a
form of judicial trial, which if he were to undertake in behalf of his own cause,
would leave himself open to condemnation by means of his very own arguments.
If Job approached God and stated that he was
righteous, that he was perfect, that he was without sin, then by the very act
of opening his mouth, and even by the very thought of it, he would be
committing a sin by promoting a lie.
'All have sinned and come short of the glory of
God.' Is God a liar, or is humanity?
The proof of mans flawed character is so great and
obvious, that only the phenomenally arrogant, the na ve, or the indifferent
refuse to see it. And actually it is not
that they do not see the truth, they in fact reject the truth preferring to
instead swim within their own delusion.
If man were perfect, then he would never experience
death, which is the very penalty for sin.
Who do you know that has never died in history?
So the very claim to perfection is by default, proof
of a belligerent, stubborn and perverse soul.
A person who is self-centered and rejects the truth and the true state
of the soul.
An honest person knows the state of the human soul and
would never think of justifying himself before God in any way. Job knows enough about himself that he is not
stupid enough to place himself in this type of trial situation.
To make such claims of perfection is to ignore the
truth, and therefore despise ones life.
The only way to value ones own life is to recognize
the truth of life. In so doing, then one
can make the necessary correct decisions, and take the necessary correct courses
in life, to acquire preservation of ones own life.
The Bible makes a case for the depravation and
corruption of man.
To pursue any other philosophy of religion, to pursue
any other beliefs invented apart from the Bible, is a rejection of the vary
foundation of principles laid out in the Bible.
By passionate expressions, by complaining, by
murmuring, by expressions of self-righteousness, by comments of ignorance, by
arguments that are contrary to principles of truth, by debating false
positions, by excluding truths in comments, by belligerence of attitude, a
person demonstrates in themselves that God is right in charging them with sin
and therefore failure.
And we might point out one more thing here. No one can think anything, desire anything,
do anything, subscribe to any set of morals, standards, or regulations invented
or defined by man, which will help them to become perfect. This eliminates every religion, philosophy
and secular belief ever invented by humanity.
Christianity is not a religion. Christianity is a relationship with God,
through Jesus Christ.
Your greatest possession is your spiritual life. If you so despise you own life, then reject
truth and pursue your own course through life.
You will in effect drive yourself away from the perfection of your life,
which God provides, into your own delusional world, which will end up in total
disaster.
Hummm! Do you
think it might be reasonable to go back over these last several chapters of
Job, and write out some brief notes, covering all of the principles we have covered
thus far? I will bet that you do not
realize, and that you will be surprised, as to just how many concepts of truth
we have covered.
Reading the Word of God is good, but the learning
process needs some cycling reinforcement, and when you actually begin to write
your own notes, then what you have read will begin to stick just that much
more.
