You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.
Job 6:28-30
28 Now therefore be content [ya'al], look [panah] upon me; for
it is evident [paniym] unto you if I lie [kazab].
29 Return [shuwb], I pray you, let it
not be iniquity [`evel]; yea, return again [shuwb], my righteousness [tsedeq]
is in it.
30 Is there [yesh] iniquity [`evel] in my tongue [lashown]?
cannot my taste [chek] discern [biyn] perverse things [havvah]? KJV-Interlinear
28 'And now please look at me, And see if I lie to your face.
29 'Desist now, let there be no
injustice; Even desist, my righteousness is yet in it. 30 'Is there injustice on my tongue? Cannot my
palate discern calamities? NASB
'Look
at me,' Job says. 'Look at my
condition. What do you see? Isn't my situation of extreme pain and
suffering reason enough for me to cry out in complaint?'
To
virtually anyone who has an once of common sense within them, the obvious
should be, well obvious. But to the
self-righteous person, the obvious is generally ignored if it does not fit in with
what they want.
Self-righteous
people ignore facts, and prefer their own version of reality. Their reality is what is best for them, and
not necessarily what is best for others.
Self-righteousness
is only interested in power, control, or popularity. To be the center of
attention, and in charge, is more important than searching out solutions.
As
we advance through this book, we will see that the arguments of Eliphaz and
friends, are mere words conveying various principles of truth, but are
disassociated from the reality of the situation. Job's situation.
Life
is difficult enough when you have someone trying to teach truths, but
distorting their application to a situation.
Life is really tough, when you have someone trying to teach distortions,
and further distorting them with even greater distortions. And when the latter is taken up by the media,
or masses of the world, then you have a recipe preparing itself for global
disaster.
Truth
is simple in most cases. Truth is
obvious in most cases. But when truth is
ignored, when facts are not perfectly matched up with reality, then evil gains
a foothold and people become the victims of their own ignorance.
Job
says, 'Look.'
So
as a believer in Christ, it is your obligation to look at life with objective
eyes, and not with the bias of yours or someone else's view of life.
The
only way to see life clearly, to see life as though you were viewing it with
all of the lights on, is by having Bible doctrine inside of your soul. Bible doctrine, or all of the teachings of
the Bible, is the source of that light with which we can see life all around
us.
Lacking
Bible doctrine in your soul, means that you have no light. Try walking through life with no light. How many times will you stumble over things? Many times.
With no light, you simply cannot see.
And here light means all of your senses. With no senses, with nothing with which you
can figure things out, then you are totally in the dark. That is life without Bible doctrine.
Job
says, 'Look.'
What
is obvious here? What has Job done that
would make him an evil person?
To
call things the way that they are, is justice.
To call them otherwise, is injustice.
To look at the facts of a situation, is objective. To ignore the facts and pursue your own conclusions,
is subjective due to your own agenda and desired outcome.
Hold
the woman under the water and if she drowns, then she must not be a witch!
Truth
does not take life to such extremes.
Self-righteousness
takes life to absurd extremes.
Job
can see the plain facts here. Job knows his own personality and nature. He confessed on a regular basis for himself
and his family. He followed the proper
confession offering rituals. We have
already studied that.
Job
was in fellowship far more often than most.
Job has the ability to discern the difference between right and wrong,
sin and evil, blessing and calamity. His
life of perhaps a hundred years, is proof of how he thinks and conducts his
life.
His
one outburst of anger and wishes for non-existence, do not cancel out his
entire life. And even though Job
complained about his discomfort, he never once cursed or complained about God, neither
did he blame Him.
If
he had been a complainer and sinner throughout his life, then that would be
different, and Eliphaz's conclusions would be well founded, but Job has lived
an exemplary life. There is no basis for
concluding that Job was an evil man, and that his suffering was brought on
because of his wickedness.
Though
we are studying Job's suffering, we are also studying the way self-righteous
people look at life. How truth can be
known but applied incorrectly to life, primarily because those applying it have
ulterior motives of their own, which they prefer, rather than Gods intentions.
Truth
is out in the open. Truth is
obvious. Truth is never hidden and it
never has deceitful intentions, or hidden agendas.
With
Bible doctrine in the soul, which gets into your soul by learning it and
applying it correctly, then truth makes decision making much easier, and
understanding of life more comprehensible.
