Haggai 1:7-9
7 Thus saith [amar] the LORD [Yahovah] of hosts [tsaba]; Consider [suwm][lebab] your ways [derek]. 8 Go up [alah] to the mountain [har], and bring [bow] wood [ets], and build [banah] the house [bayith]; and I will take pleasure [ratsah] in it, and I will be glorified [kabad], saith [amar] the LORD [Yahovah]. 9 Ye looked [panah] for much [rabah], and, lo, it came to little [ma`at]; and when ye brought [bow] it home [bayith], I did blow [naphach] upon it. Why? saith [na'um] the LORD [Yahovah] of hosts [tsaba]. Because [ya`an] of mine house [bayith] that is waste [chareb], and ye run [ruwts] every man [iysh] unto his own house [bayith]. KJV-Interlinear 7 Thus says the LORD of hosts, 'Consider your ways! 8 'Go up to the mountains, bring wood and rebuild the temple, that I may be pleased with it and be glorified,' says the LORD. 9 'You look for much, but behold, it comes to little; when you bring it home, I blow it away. Why?' declares the LORD of hosts, 'Because of My house which lies desolate, while each of you runs to his own house. NASB
So do we go to the Rocky Mountains, or the Himalayas, or to the Alps per chance, to get our wood and building materials for building a temple to God? Just which mountain do we go to, to find the proper building material?
And the temple. Where is it to be built? Jerusalem? Our home town?
Well you probably know that none of these concepts apply. The only real temple that matters is the one which is constructed within your soul.
The only proper building material is Bible doctrine.
Then once you have built a temple within your soul, you have to use it in order to derive the spiritual benefit it provides. A building that is never moved into is just an empty building. It produces nothing.
Haggai repeats. 'Consider your ways.' 'Consider what is important to you in this life.'
Go to your Bible study which is in, an out of the way place. It is not a part of this worlds normal functions but is located within the covers of the Bible. Go there and gather the necessary material to build your own personal temple.
A temple is a place of worship. A place where you have a personal relationship with God. A one on one with God. A temple is not made of wood and concrete and steel, but it is made of Gods Word in your soul. And there you will find more prosperity and wealth beyond your imagination than you would ever find or earn in a thousand life times.
Your wealth in doctrine applies to this life in that God will get you through it with your relying on faith alone. He has this opportunity to teach you His tremendous wisdom and plan for your life and to show you on a day to day basis that He can do far more for you and you will be far happier, than your would on your own.
You have this opportunity to learn and to witness all of His work for yourself in this life.
Once in heaven and eternity, then your riches will take on a different appearance. Today you live on faith and endure the world. In eternity you will realize the reality of Gods wealth saved up for you. Starting with an actual resurrection body and it gets better and better from that point on.
Meanwhile God warns of what apathy will gain you. Nothing.
We all ignore God and doctrine. We do not engage in a daily study. We don't memorize Bible verses. We don't give as we should. We aren't charitable to those in need. We just try to get by with whatever we can get for free, and figure that someone else will take care of those other giving things.
But what we miss is that it is only us that can build our own personal temple within our soul. No one else's activities will build up anything within our soul. So the test of our obedience or selfishness is always before us. God provides us with everything we need in order to advance in our spiritual life. It is our own decisions that prevent us from advancing.
And our selfishness always gains us nothing. We think that we are saving for ourselves but in reality we are canceling out our future profits. Profits far greater than anything we think we are saving.
God will blow, all that you have, away with the permitted ways of the world, of the jungle. Your worst enemy is time and procrastination. Sooner or later God will call you home. You could have a stoke tonight and it will be lights out for you. None of us know when our time will be up.
And once we die, we are totally helpless and at the total mercy of God. Today we think that just because we cannot see beyond death, because we have legs and arms and an active brain that we can go anywhere and do anything and that we have some semblance of self determination. What happens when you die and your soul leaves your body and is without those arms and legs and without any self ability to move about in this universe?
Any self determination you have in life is totally subject to your attitude toward God. Choose for God and you are gaining total freedom. Choose against God and you give yourself over to slavery to this world and an environment without God.
God is the glue which holds this universe together. Take away that glue and your life will disintegrate into total chaos. None of us can make our heart beat or not beat, much less hold the universe together. Ignore God and you in effect allow the world to ruin your own life.
Why all the doom and gloom? Because (if you are negative) you have ignored the House of God. That house within your own soul to which you refuse to give priority to in this life.
Now is the time to post a prayer.
End Of Lesson
Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
