Lesson # Habakkuk 3:17 Study Material - Habakkuk 3:17 You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth. Habakkuk 3:17 17 Although the fig tree [ta'en] shall not blossom [parach] , neither shall fruit [yabuwl] be in the vines [gephen] ; the labour [ma`aseh] of the olive [zayith] shall fail [kachash] , and the fields [shademah] shall yield [asah] no meat [okel] ; the flock [tso'n] shall be cut off [gazar] from the fold [mikla'ah] , and there shall be no herd [baqar] in the stalls [repheth] : KJV-Interlinear 17 Though the fig tree should not blossom, And there be no fruit on the vines, Though the yield of the olive should fail, And the fields produce no food, Though the flock should be cut off from the fold, And there be no cattle in the stalls, NASB Things in life do not happen over night. Life goes along for months and years before dramatic changes come along. The fig tree, and the olive tree, and the farming fields, and the herds and flocks, are all representative of the believers in the nation. They exist for the purpose of producing good product. And they exist for no other reason. If they do not produce then they are worthless and are discarded or thrown away because of their non-productivity. Habakkuk saw the spiritual impotence of the nation. People were indifferent. That had been for decades and even for generations. Society had declined as a result of the lack of truth and legitimate perspective for life. People had lost their ability to see the truth of life. People were looking toward themselves, they were looking to commerce, they were looking to political clout, to the advantages of their superior intellect or physical abilities, for their guidance through life. They were looking to their own self defined beliefs to help them get through life. God had been lost in the recipe of life and God simply was not necessary. I noticed on the news, that in some places over in the Indian Ocean region, that relief was being hampered by government and religious restrictions. Some places were off limits because of certain beliefs that the people over there had. In those states which are primarily Hindu, Buddhist, or Islamic, the devastation is tremendous, and yet there is a reluctance by many to change their theological beliefs. Consequently the hardship and the destruction will continue and even increase. People could not avoid the earthquake, but they can change their own rules of living. When people are negative, then inevitably they will become their own worst enemy. Didn't we just study that? Habakkuk saw the negative attitude of his society. He knew that trouble, very big trouble was on the horizon and it was only a matter of time. He could even identify the source of the trouble which would eventually overcome Judah - the Chaldeans. Sometimes in history we can identify the trouble sources. Such as in the 30's of last century when Japan and Germany were being very aggressive against their neighbors. Sometimes we cannot identify the source of the trouble as in the earthquake of last week or an airplane hijacking, or even a heart attack. God is not limited by anything. He has many sources for bringing judgment against a people or against an individual. No one is safe. We can look to life and over time we can identify whether the world or whether our own life is in sync with the teaching of the scriptures. With our study we can also see whether the future will be a prosperous one, or one of trouble. Of course the world is a hodgepodge of many peoples and beliefs, so the mix of blessing and trouble will coexist. The one other ingredient for viewing life and history is understanding Gods plan for the human race. We know that history is driving toward the next big spiritual event which is the Rapture. We know that before the Rapture occurs that the nations will be aligned in a certain way, and that the Royal Family will be completed. What we do not know is when this will all come together. To that end, God will not allow any enemy to derail His plan. And in history there have been many would be empire builders who have tried to define history according to their own will. When the numbers of people who are positive toward God are high, then prosperity always follows. When the numbers of people who are positive toward God are low, then trouble follows. All of life revolves around Jesus Christ and what attitude people have toward Him. No other factor in life defines history. As a result of positive people, God looked down through the tunnels of time and, seeing them, created a plan for their benefit. He made promises and God is faithful. With this same principle of doctrine, you can evaluate your own life. We put together a check list a long time ago. You can find it on the web site (if you are so inclined). If you are positive and obedient to God then your life will be a prosperous one. If you are not particularly interested in God, or are selective in your obedience, then your life will not be a prosperous one. Prosperity is defined as spiritual prosperity, not worldly prosperity. You could be a millionaire now, and be a total failure spiritually if you are not advancing in your spiritual life. Your prosperity is not defined by your assets or your bank account. Your true prosperity will be made known to you when you stand before the Judgment Seat of Christ. At that time, it will be too late to change your living habits in this life. That should be obvious. The time to change your life is now, not after you have left this world. Aligning your life in opposition of God brings only misery and destruction. Aligning you life in compliance with God brings nothing but blessing. End Of Lesson Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
