Lesson # Habakkuk 3:3-4 Study Material - Habakkuk 3:3-4 You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth. Habakkuk 3:3-4 3 God [elowahh] came [bow] from Teman [Teyman] , and the Holy One [qadowsh] from mount [har] Paran [Pa'ran] . Selah [celah] . His glory [howd] covered [kacah] the heavens [shamayim] , and the earth [erets] was full [male] of his praise [tahillah] . 4 And his brightness [nogahh] was as the light [owr] ; he had horns [qeren] coming out of his hand [yad] : and there was the hiding [chebyown] of his power [oz] . KJV-Interlinear 3 God comes from Teman, And the Holy One from Mount Paran. Selah. His splendor covers the heavens, And the earth is full of His praise. 4 His radiance is like the sunlight; He has rays flashing from His hand, And there is the hiding of His power. NASB Habakkuk begins his praise from history in which God has proven himself time and again. Back in the days following the Exodus, the Israelites ventured to the base of Mt. Sinai. From there Moses went up the mountain and received the tablets of the law, and then returned. Deut. 33:2 2 And he said, 'The LORD came from Sinai, And dawned on them from Seir; He shone forth from Mount Paran, And He came from the midst of ten thousand holy ones; At His right hand there was flashing lightning for them. NASB Ex. 24:17 17 And to the eyes of the sons of Israel the appearance of the glory of the LORD was like a consuming fire on the mountain top. NASB 1 Tim. 6:16 16 who alone possesses immortality and dwells in unapproachable light; whom no man has seen or can see. To Him be honor and eternal dominion! Amen. NASB Psa, 18:11 11 He made darkness His hiding place, His canopy around Him, NASB Psa. 104:2 2 Covering Thyself with light as with a cloak, Stretching out heaven like a tent curtain. NASB The glory of the Lord filled the sky above the surrounding mountains and hills in all directions. The brilliance and power displayed would have been awesome, as Habakkuk here describes in his prayer. The rays of light emanated from two sides. From the left and from the right. In all directions in other words. God appeared in his glory, as he never did before or since. Coming 'from Teman, even the Holy One from Mount Paran,' refers to the visible display of the glory of God when he gave the law upon Mount Sinai, followed by the first words spoken by God there, 'I am the Lord thy God, that brought thee out of the land of Egypt.' Egypt is the broad term for slavery, sin, and the burdens of life. Job 11:6 6 And show you the secrets of wisdom! For sound wisdom has two sides. NASB The wisdom of God far surpasses all other beliefs. On both sides, from any view point, there it truth which never changes and can never be altered. God is a merciful God, but He will not allow iniquity to pass by unchallenged, and unpunished. On the one hand, the people of Judah were bordering on the brink of invasion and slavery because of their indifference toward God. They brought themselves to this point in their history. God will allow history to run its course and thus the Chaldeans will invade from the north, inflicting punishment on those who deserve it. Any who are positive and are caught up in the invasion will be delivered in some fashion. See the story of Daniel. Likewise, those who invade have their responsibility to God and to man. Their injustices will not go unpunished as well. In time the Babylonian empire will succumb to the Persian empire. But though there will be injustices from the initial invasion and even throughout the decades of the empire, the Babylonian empire will serve to extend the teaching of the Word of God to many peoples throughout the many conquered nations. Even Sennacherib when he invades, will be aware of the prophecy of the fall of Judah to the power from the north. And, he will use that prophecy to taunt the people of Jerusalem while trying to get them to surrender. Nebuchadnezzar will send out many decrees referring to the one true God. God can guide many good uses from the deeds of mankind, regardless of the intentions of man. Beginning with any problem which we might face in our lives. We need to look to God and His all powerful glory, which far surpasses everything else in existence. God is merciful. God is fair. God understands the nature of our weakness and has great love for each believer. God does not sacrifice anyone carelessly for the sake of His overall plan for mankind. But He does look to our individual needs even in the face of unusual historical settings. What we should learn from this opening line of Habakkuk's prayer, is that there is no such thing as a hopeless situation. Though things might seem a little dicey from time to time in life, if you are consistent in your Daily Bible study, if you are obedient to the will and commands of God, if you are remaining in fellowship with a constant vigil and alertness as a soldier on the lookout tower, if you are doing all the things necessary to advance yourself in your spiritual life, then, you will see great miracles from God in your life. All this despite the events that might occur in the world, or in your life. There is no power or situation in this life that can defeat God, nor take you out from under His control. From within the scriptures are hidden the secrets of His power and glory. Only those who advance in their spiritual lives, can come to an understanding of life and Gods will. As to those who are indifferent toward God, then those secrets remain hidden, because they do not learn them. End Of Lesson Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
