Lesson # Habakkuk 3:1 Study Material - Habakkuk 3:1 You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth. Habakkuk 3:1 1 A prayer [taphillah] of Habakkuk [Chabaqquwq] the prophet [nabiy] upon Shigionoth [shiggayown] . KJV-Interlinear 1 A prayer of Habakkuk the prophet, according to Shigionoth. NASB 'Shigionoth' means, an impassioned writing, or song, or as in this case, an impassioned prayer. The message from God was clear. Stop complaining! Stop doubting! God is not indifferent to sin and not insensitive to suffering. God is neither inactive nor impervious. God controls history. In His perfect time God will accomplish His divine purpose. Habakkuk was to stand in humble silence, awaiting with patient expectancy for Gods intervention. He had complained in chapter one, over the unchecked sin in his country. He was amazed at Gods disclosure that He had already prepared an instrument to judge Judah, namely, the Chaldeans. Who were not only going to be the instrument of discipline against Judah, but would further be made into a massive empire and even more than that, would become an integral part of the prophecies of Daniel. Of course Habakkuk would not know about Daniel. Daniel was still future. Habakkuk was shocked. He expressed his dilemma to God and waited for an answer. That answer came in chapter two, which Habakkuk was instructed to record. Learning of Gods just plan to destroy Judah and later Babylon itself too, Habakkuk bowed in humble adoration. His majestic prayer and hymn of praise follow now in chapter three. Chapter 3 is the culmination and climax of Habakkuk's book. Habakkuk's journey began in a valley of frustration, as nothing seemed to be happening, and ended up on a mountain top of enlightenment. At the opening of chapter 2, Habakkuk was awaiting Gods reply. He then recorded Gods reply. Now the prophet gave his response to God. It was not a protest this time, but an impassioned prayer of praise as indicated by its simple title - A prayer of Habakkuk the prophet, according to 'impassionment.' Habakkuk was in error in questioning Gods intentions. Habakkuk was in error in questioning as to why the delay for discipline. Habakkuk was in no position to consider the spiritual lives of anyone but himself, let alone the many thousands or millions (whatever the population was at that time) of people that lived in the region. Sure he could witness the many crimes and sins and sour attitudes of society, but he could not know the mind of everyone. God alone is capable of that. We just finished a national election last month. And if you listened to the very liberal minded national media prior to the election, the challenger was not only the messiah of the decade, but had all but won the election. That was not to be as we now know. God has a plan and that plan cannot be changed by media propaganda, by violence, or by any other means. Mankind cannot change, nor alter, nor add to, nor take away from, that which God has ordained in the divine decrees of eternity past. We are lucky in our time that there seems to be a rather large number of conservative minded and Christian thinking people within our population. God has a plan for each of our lives, and that plan will unfold properly in Gods good time. Likewise, when the population turns sour on God, and the numbers of negative minded people begin to grow, then Gods plan will already have included their appropriate punishment. Note Gods plans are already prepared. Nothing takes God by surprise. People are taken by surprise, but God never is. God is patient and works His plan in according to His plan which was laid out in eternity past. We may not see the fine details of that plan, but on occasion we get a glimpse of the direction of our generation just by observing the various powers that be, positioning themselves in our contemporary history. We saw the absolute foolishness with which negative people live their lives, in Proverbs 12. Now Habakkuk will demonstrate the humility in which we should approach God in our lives, regardless of our situation. End Of Lesson Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
