Lesson # Habakkuk 2:4-5 Study Material - Habakkuk 2:4-5 You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth. Habakkuk 2:4-5 4 Behold, his soul [nephesh] which is lifted up [aphal] is not upright [yashar] in him: but the just [tsaddiyq] shall live [chayah] by his faith [emuwnah] . 5 Yea also, because he transgresseth [bagad] by wine [yayin] , he is a proud [yahiyr] man [geber] , neither keepeth at home [navah] , who enlargeth [rachab] his desire [nephesh] as hell [sha'owl] , and is as death [maveth] , and cannot be satisfied [saba] , but gathereth [acaph] unto him all nations [gowy] , and heapeth [qabats] unto him all people [am] : KJV-Interlinear 4 'Behold, as for the proud one, His soul is not right within him; But the righteous will live by his faith. 5 'Furthermore, wine betrays the haughty man, So that he does not stay at home. He enlarges his appetite like Sheol, And he is like death, never satisfied. He also gathers to himself all nations And collects to himself all peoples. NASB This is quoted in the New Testament in several places, Rom. 1:17, Gal. 3:11, Heb. 10:38. Rom. 1:17 17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, 'But the righteous man shall live by faith.' NASB Gal 3:11 11 Now that no one is justified by the Law before God is evident; for, ' The righteous man shall live by faith.' NASB Heb. 10:38 38 But My righteous one shall live by faith; And if he shrinks back, My soul has no pleasure in Him. NASB God begins the prophecy with a fundamental principle of doctrine. Arrogance is the foundation upon which all sin rests. By sin we mean, anything which is contrary to Gods truth. This certainly includes criminal acts of all types, but it also includes negative volition, which is the effective way of opening the door of ones soul to sin. From there all kinds of sins enter into the life of the individual, mental sins, verbal sins, and finally overt sins. Only those things which are ascribed to God, are true and good. Everything else, which is not of God, is evil. That is the quick definition and difference, between good and evil. At some point in your life, and for probably a great deal of your life, you were classified as an evil person, although you did not know it, nor probably, did you even think of yourself as evil. Most people think of themselves as basically good. But anyone who lives outside of the fellowship sphere is actually evil. That is the sphere in which they live. Some people will conduct themselves in a manner which really makes them bad. Doing things such as robbery, rape, murder, incessant gossip, self righteousness, and that list can be a long list. Most folks just live their daily lives, going to work or school, doing the daily chores, engaging in whatever hobby they like, and so forth. But if they live out of fellowship, then they too are technically evil. Fellowship is the sphere of spirituality. Evil is the sphere of the carnal or non-spiritual. Gold, silver, precious stones, and divine good, are terms describing the production which comes out of the fellowship sphere. Wood, hay, stubble, sin, and human good are the terms we use to describe the production of evil. A persons production of their soul while living out of fellowship. Wickedness is the collective term we use to describe these things, the production of evil. The soul relies on the carnal world around it, for its survival. That which is seen, felt, smelled, heard, tasted, imagined. As we studied in Exodus and Ephesians, when the soul ignores Gods word, then the soul begins to crust over with a callousness. The Bible calls this scar tissue of the soul, or hardness of the heart. When the soul eventually crusts over completely from a lifetime of negative volition toward God, or truth, then that is called the blackout of the soul. The person then dies. There are several charts on the web site index page describing this process of the soul. Print them off and review them at your convenience. A soul without proper nourishment, Bible doctrine, is an unhealthy soul. It is, 'not right,' as our passage states. It is sick. A soul that receives its daily allowance of bible doctrine (sounds like a vitamin commercial), is a healthy soul. It thrives and prospers. This soul, of a believer who is positive, relies on Bible doctrine. Doctrine is from the source of God, and it is not seen, not felt, not tasted, not heard, not smelled, not imagined. We call this faith. The spiritual is not of this physical world, but of an unseen world, which we believe in and hold to, because we are convinced of its truth and source. Which is God. That person, the one who is positive toward God, who is consistent in their daily study, who will be obedient to the commands of God (all of them, not selectively obedient to those things that appeal to them), will have health, wealth, happiness and much, much more, both now in time, and in eternity. We cannot distinguish the content of the soul, as we cannot see into the soul, but we can observe in others their habit of thought. They talk, and they act, sooner or later. And their actions betray their thoughts. While spiritual growth promotes a sober, and stable state of soul, the lack of doctrine, promotes a non-sober, non-stable state. That is a drunken state of confusion, of a lack of discernment, a lack of effective response, a lack of comprehension, a compromising or permissive attitude. The negative person clings to the foreign and the strange, which is anything which is not of God. The soul is our true home for our life. Our human life is in the soul. When one does not learn Bible doctrine, then in effect it is as though no one is at home to keep it clean and orderly. The place is a mess. The negative person is never satisfied, just as death is never satisfied. One death will not satisfy death, so all must die. And even then, death is never satisfied. There is nothing in the way of fulfillment in which to create contentment. There is no target for contentment. The negative person has no capacity for life, for love, for happiness, for anything of any kind in life. The negative person can never be satisfied. When doctrine enters into the soul, God constructs a palace, a temple, a fortress if you will, in your soul. This becomes the order and integrity, and structure of your soul. Into this grows capacity for all manner of life. The unbeliever, the negative believer lacks this structure or target for capacity. The negative person, the evil person, can go out and gather to himself everything imaginable in life. From wealth, to friends, to whatever it is a person thinks he or she needs. But gaining the whole world will not replace even one drop of the work of Gods word. The positive person who is advancing in their spiritual life may have nothing in the world, but he will have everything he needs for life, and especially for eternity, where the real wealth, and prosperity, and happiness exist. End Of Lesson Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
