Study Material - Genesis 8:20
You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.
Gen. 8:20
20 Then Noah built an altar to the LORD, and took of every clean animal and of every clean bird and offered burnt offerings on the altar.
First priority out of the ark is the thanks offering to God. Noah did not start to build a house or shelter. He did not rationalize that he needed to get organized of wait for more animals to be born so he would have a larger herd from which to choose sacrificial animals. He could have convinced himself that these things were necessary.
Noah did what was right and appropriate. He recognized that all things come from God, that God delivered him from a corrupt world. That God is able to prosper him in the most severe of crisis and under the most terrible conditions.
Noah has just been delivered in the tremendous flooding of the world. His disembarked from the ark at a high elevation in the mountains. The weather was probably not cold due to the influence of the water world wide but certainly the world environment was very different from the world Noah knew just prior to the flood.
Noah offered thanks to God by sacrificing the seventh of the seven clean animals. He did not sacrifice unclean animals, but only those animals which God had authorized in earlier times. Noah was well familiar with the sacrificial requirements. With only seven animals in each of the clean categories, and here they are not specified except as to their fitting the 'clean' category as opposed to unclean animals, and leaving six animals for breeding and reproduction, Noah did not hesitate to make the offering. He did not get greedy and hesitate in giving up a large percentage of his stock for fear of losing them all.
We need to learn that no matter what we have, whether it be little or abundance, we need to recognize God and give accordingly for His service. We have an obligation to support our local church which we attend, to support the local charity to help others in need, to give of ourselves in furthering Gods Word, both by thought and deed. We study to learn and then we live honestly as a result of our Biblical knowledge. Note that this is not in reverse. Living good does not make you spiritual. Keeping the Law of Moses does not make you spiritual. Any unbeliever whose destiny is hell, can live a good life. His condemnation is his unbelief in Christ.
The true spiritual life is first being in fellowship, well first you have to be saved certainly, but after salvation is the only time that a spiritual life is possible. Unbelievers cannot be spiritual, impossible. Anyway, first being in fellowship, then studying Gods Word on a regular basis and growing as you learn. Tests in life help you apply your knowledge to life and thus accelerate your growth. That is your spiritual life and there is nothing mysterious about it.
Now is the time to post a prayer.
End Of Lesson
Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
