Gen. 8:13-14
13 Now it came about in the six hundred and first year, in the first month, on the first of the month, the water was dried up from the earth. Then Noah removed the covering of the ark, and looked, and behold, the surface of the ground was dried up. 14 And in the second month, on the twenty-seventh day of the month, the earth was dry.
One year later nearly, in Noah's 601st year, Noah opens a portion of the ark covering to get up on top of the ark, and go out to see what the world looked like. And he saw the water gone. It was new years day, the first day of the first month, and a new beginning was about to unfold.
In future generations, Passover, Unleaven Bread, and First Fruits would be celebrated in their respective feasts during this first month of the year. Here is a resurrection of sorts for Noah. He has been confined in the ark for nearly a year now and about to be released from its confinement. To some it might appear as a prison restricting freedom, but to others with doctrine, the ark represents Gods preservation and deliverance, a vehicle of protection and future blessing.
No doubt Noah would have desired to throw open the door and get out onto dry ground, but God had not yet given that permission. The water was gone but the ground was not ready for habitation. Probably there would have been insufficient grass for the animals to feed on, or perhaps the weather would not permit comfort for the people. Remember that Noah left a world which had perfect weather and was lush with vegetation. Now they were high in the mountains probably with little vegetation and the temperature no doubt was cool if not down right cold. Review the calendar chart on the index page under images for a reference to the dates. The first month is comparable to our early spring in March / April.
Then in the second month and on the 27th day the earth was dry. Here the water had fallen back to within the boundaries which we have today. The oceans are where they are, the continents are where they are, at least in general. Of course we know that over the centuries the continents have drifted, that earth quakes have taken land away and volcanoes have put land back, that beaches have had erosion and so forth, but what ever vegetation there was, certainly began then and in the next few centuries after Noah, the forests would reach massive scales beyond our current forests. Likewise the deserts would tend to grow as they do today. Though the world was given a new beginning and would experience new growth, ultimately it would begin to deteriorate, just as a new born child begins its initial growth then matures, then as age begins to creep up on the person so does the deterioration of the body and eventual physical death.
God still has not given instructions to unload. Many of us become impatient in life to gain the changes we desire, but God does not limit our conditions for no reason. God does for us that which is best for us. We need to learn to wait on Him. And waiting means doing the preparatory things we are supposed to be doing in order to get ready for the next increment in our lives that God has already prepared for us. God prepared the world and He rearranged it in the flood. Likewise we need to be ready for our new beginnings. That preparation comes from our Bible study and nothing else. Once you have prepared your soul with Bible doctrine, then all the other things in your make up will function normally. Your natural desires and drives for the things you like to do, whether it be a hobby or career, a gift or talent you might have. Some of us work well with people, others of us work well with mathematics, still others have entertainment gifts and the list goes on. All persons have some natural talent, but that talent or gift will not satisfy you unless you have a foundation of Bible doctrine in your soul, unless you have a consistent status of fellowship with God, unless you have a pattern of consistent spiritual growth toward maturity.
Noah waited in the ark even though he could see the water gone and probably had a strong desire to get out of the ark. He let God guide his life. Now we are at the 370 day in the ark. One year at 360 days and ten days later then the flood began on the 17th day of the year, one year ago. Noah and his family have been consistent in their responsibilities within the ark. They have recognized Gods hand in all these events and have been faithful in remembering the Sabbath and in their regular prayers.
With all adversity comes protection from harm, and eventually the removal of the adversity. God is faithful to His own. Once you believe in Jesus Christ, you become His and under His protection. Once you learn His doctrine and requirements by studying consistently, by remaining in fellowship and growing up spiritually, you are in His ark of protection and the world could fall apart and you would be protected. Any difficulty you face in life will not harm you, and any suffering you may have to endure, you will be delivered from. Stay in your ark and be patient, don't get impatient and jump out of the ark and into the quicksand of the world.
Now is the time to post a prayer.
End Of Lesson
Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
