Lesson # Genesis 6:11-12 Study Material - Genesis 6:11-12 You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth. Gen. 6:11-12 11 Now the earth was corrupt in the sight of God, and the earth was filled with violence. 12 And God looked on the earth, and behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted their way upon the earth. The earth was corrupt, a different concept is introduced to give us a clear picture as to just how far the people of earth had fallen. The earth was filled with violence. This is the overt action of sin, crime, evil thought. So the corruption was directed against God in the form of idols, Satanism, false worship concepts, even false worship of the legitimate God. Everything that you can possibly imagine in the negative sense was going on during this time. Don't be fooled by the Greek mythology which is based on the stories of these superhuman types. The environment was not a pleasant one. There were slaves, imprisoned victims, torture, murder, rape, theft, nothing was safe. There was no government, no written law, no system of justice. Morality was not an issue in the minds of anyone. Whatever one could do and get away with was ok. The bigger fish would eat or take from the smaller one. So the law of the jungle was in place. Life without God is tyranny and chaos. There is no fairness in anything. Survival is a question of just how long you might survive. Freedom is nonexistent. Liberty is nonexistent. Man was on the verge of self destruction. There was no device to help mankind counter the destructiveness of sin. Now I'll state my personal opinion which is only what I believe and not based on any scripture. Regarding the continents and continental drift. There are a number of web sites that have some really neat animation's of continental drift showing the continents as one unit long ago and then dividing up into the separate continents. This is of course assumed to have occurred over a period of millions of years. But I think that it happened over a period of less than one year during the flood. I ask why should God flood the entire world. He could have blasted it with fire, or disease, or volcanoes, or earthquakes, or snakes, or a variety of things to kill off the population, but He chose water and to bury the land entirely. I think this was to use the water power to move the continents into their places. To raise up mountains in their present places for weather activities, for geographical barriers to separate man from man, to help man protect himself as well as run away from danger imposed by other men. It also sets the stage for the various power spheres we have throughout history. With this separation in geographical design, man can have places to go to, to explore, to get away from persecution, to protect himself and so forth. After the flood we will have the same one nation, one language problem that occurred prior to the flood, but Babel will solve that dilemma. Anyway that is my personal opinion for what it is worth. God looked on the earth and saw the degeneracy, the corruption, the violence, the attitudes, and He saw Noah. Psa 33:13, God sees everything from His place I heaven. God sees the hearts motivation as well as the results of the decisions man makes, in overt activity. All flesh had corrupted their way. Not only had man been corrupted, but all air breathing animal life had been corrupted. Man was supposed to be in charge of the animal kingdom, but mankind had become irresponsible and abused his authority. The animal kingdom suffers too when man becomes corrupt. Animals don't get taken care of properly. They are left to their own devices to fend for themselves. People take home pets and then throw them out like used furniture. People become irresponsible and look for the easy way our of a situation. Can't feed the animal - kick it out. Solves your problem, right?? Wrong. Dumping responsibility on society, places burdens on society that bureaucracy cannot manage very well. Bureaucracy is cold and uncaring. Being kicked out into the world is cold and cruel as well. People drop to whatever means they can to survive. Gangs develop and so forth and society is not safe. Vigilantes take over vindication and the innocent suffer wrongly. Such was the world in Noah's pre-flood days. If God had not taken action then we would not be here now. God was not taken be surprise either. God saw all this in eternity past when the divine decrees were set. See the image chart on the Index page. God has allowed all possible situations in history to demonstrate mans incapability to rule himself, to show Satan's incapability to rule the world. Life without God is a doomed life. People ignored God and they messed up society. Now Noah is about to get some instruction from God for his survival, and Noah will listen and obey. We should heed what we learn in our Bible study. Take things into our hearts and learn and grow. We need to follow Gods commands so that we can advance in our spiritual life, and then the blessings will flow to us throughout our lives and into eternity. We cannot turn back the clock and change our minds if we think we can sail through life and then get 'religious' so to speak. Make the decision today and everyday and study your Bible every day and advance to the high ground and victory.
