Genesis 6:1-2

Lesson # Genesis 6:1-2
Study Material - Genesis 6:1-2

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Gen. 6:1-2

1 Now it came about, when men began to multiply on the face of the land, and daughters were born to them, 2 that the sons of God saw that the daughters of men were beautiful; and they took wives for themselves, whomever they chose.

Prov. 29:16, when the wicked increase, the sins increase as well. Here is the state of the world prior to the flood. Men were on the increase. The population was swelling and so was sin. Mankind had received all the blessings from God in this fruitful world, not the least to say that they all had the opportunity to exist and living beings, which was a gift from God.

They did not originate their own lives. None of us do. But we have another class of citizens in this world beginning to erase the purity of the human race. This would be a good alien invasion movie and a real one. The sons of God refer to a specific class of angels which apparently had the ability to procreate with human females.

God had allowed this because to prove that all creatures who go against Gods commands will eventually end in degeneracy. We have boundaries placed in our lives so as to protect ourselves from ourselves. If there were no law and order then society would eventually destroy itself. God holds back mans self destruction during the course of history in a variety of ways. Here is the first way and that was the flood.

God has already invented volition for man as the first line of defense against sin. We can either choose for it or against it. The second line of defense is marriage which protects against all manner of disease, as well as morals. The third line is family to protect the children in an atmosphere of security and teaching by the parents. The fourth line is nationalism. So no one group can gain an upper hand and force the larger masses into slavery. Geographical barriers helps separate people and protect them from the abusive tyrannies of a potential ruler. And here we have the separation of genetics, of species.

The angels that participated in this were anti-God. Likewise the women went to them voluntarily not by force. So the rebellion was by common agreement by consenting parties. The basis of these relationships was superficial. The angels saw the women and that they were beautiful. Probably the most beautiful women in the world lived during this time. But beauty does not control the soul. Man looks on the outward, while God looks on the soul. What you think is the real you.

The choice of wives was arbitrary, not based on any prior knowledge or acquaintance, but purely emotional and from a lustful view. There was no consideration that this was an intermarriage between two separate species and in violation of Gods command that species should maintain is separation. Adam did not interact with animals, but waited for God to provide him partner of his own kind.

Another aspect of this attack on the human race was the Satanic plot to divert Gods plan for a savior from the seed of woman. If the human race was to disappear then this promise could not be kept, thus God would have a flaw and Satan would win the angelic conflict. But Gods plan rolls right on despite Satans attempt to destroy everything in order to get his way.

Sinful desire thinks nothing of others, but only of ones selfish wants. Satan has already destroyed the world, causing God to repair it. Satan deceived the woman causing the fall of man. Satans policies are one of deceit, dishonesty, and everyone for themselves. That is the policy of sin. As I quoted in Prov. 29, when sinful men increase, then sin increases as well. Left untouched and unbridled, sin would destroy everything. People often think that they are in control of their own lives. Often you will hear that people reject God or religion because they do not want anyone else making their decisions for them. And in taking this attitude they fall to the very trap they want to avoid. Following Gods plan gives maximum of freedom. Rejecting God, yields the maximum slavery to the outside forces in this world, including the sin nature. In arrogance people defeat themselves.

Decisions in life should come with some thought and evaluation, not simply knee jerk reactions to superficial beauty, or some other kind of shallow desire. These first generations had the most information that could have been made available to mankind. They had the knowledge of the creation of Adam. They could see and meet Methuselah who knew Adam, and get his opinion on life and God. Between the two men, Adam and Methuselah, their lives spanned the entire first segment of human history, from creation to the flood. People could interact with angels and with God. So there was no excuse for their failure. They received warnings after warnings, and now they will have their days numbered exactly. At least in the next verse they will. Still they will reject God.

The sin nature is extremely powerful, and when we give in to it we lose ourselves to its tyranny and rule over us. The only defense and weopon we have is Bible doctrine in the soul. That is the only means of our victory in this life.

Now is the time to post a prayer.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
