Eze. 6:14 14 So will I stretch out [natah] my hand [yad] upon them, and make [nathan] the land [erets] desolate [shamamah], yea, more desolate [mashammah] than the wilderness [midbar] toward Diblath [Diblah], in all their habitations [mowshab]: and they shall know [yada] that I am the LORD [Yahovah]. KJV-Interlinear 14 'So throughout all their habitations I shall stretch out My hand against them and make the land more desolate and waste than the wilderness toward Diblah; thus they will know that I am the LORD.'' ' NASB
The extent of the destruction of Jerusalem is expanded to include the entire region of Judah and Israel, from the wilderness in the south, to the area in the north (north of Israel) known as Diblah.
Diblah is an obscure place whose specific location is unknown and that plays into the outcome of the judgment against Jerusalem. Diblah means 'a cake of figs'. And so the people of Jerusalem and Judah lived in the promised land along with all of the fig trees and production offered by a land of promise, a promise from God, but they ignored their provider and so their harvest and their lives was now to become obscure.
And not only obscure, but lost to history. The land was not lost but the people will become lost to history. This is the obscurity of historical filler that we often mention in our study.
Such was their nature against God, that they who had every potential going for them, lost it all because they were just too stubborn to appreciate what they had and so it was taken away from them.
Now note one thing in summary. Note that the people were still alive when disaster fell on them. They were still in the land of promise. And they still had doctrine up to a point, then doctrine was withdrawn from them. That which they should have cherished most was now taken away.
You have heard the phrase, 'the good die young.'
It is often true that God will take the good and leave the bad. Note closely. Too often we all will have something or someone in our life that, if the truth be known, were really the ones who carried us through life, because of their life.
But not appreciating their role in our life, they are taken out of our life by God. We are left.
God does not always take out the negative person with lightening, but will often leave them in life in order to allow them to suffer so that they can eventually turn their life around, or if they remain defiant in their spiritual life, that thus they will suffer all the more.
Something to fear, perhaps?
When you lose the one who gives meaning to your life (whether you recognize it or not), when you lose doctrine in your life (perhaps it is made available to you by some means and that means disappears), when you lose that link to God, that link which you should have recognized, but were too negative to pay attention to, then your misery, your worry, your troubles will begin to magnify themselves and it will be too late to bring back that good thing which you once had.
Is all lost when this occurs? No. But when you lose something important, it is generally because you have been negative for a very long time and the odds of your changing your pattern of life is probably on the slim side. Trouble will compound itself until you simply demonstrate that you will never change, or until you actually do change and turn your life around toward God.
Note the folks who elected to remain outside the Ark in Noah's day. When the water levels began exceeding their heads, you can imagine the screams and pleas for help. Too late. They should have listened before the Ark door was closed.
When Jerusalem had doctrine, there was still a chance for deliverance. When the city was surrounded, when starvation set in, when the walls were breached and the killing and raping and burning began, the chances for deliverance fell dramatically as the violence increased.
God always provides lots of grace before testing. Like that hurricane (Wilma) which is currently hammering Mexico right now. It was supposed to be on its way to Florida, but it has stalled over Mexico and that gives those in Florida a little more time to prepare.
Does the stall mean that the hurricane will not move on to Florida? No. It could dissipate I suppose but more than likely it will continue on its way and hit Florida and move northward up the coast, in the Atlantic. Time will tell.
Just because we look to God does not mean that we will become exempt from storms. This is the Devils world and the jungle is alive and well.
The big difference comes in Gods provisions for those who look to Him, verses His provisions for those who do not. Which group do you suppose is the better group to be associated with?
Now before we leave Ezekiel for the time being, you should do a couple of things. First go to the spiritual life checklist study and review it and see if you are in compliance with all of its requirements. Second, look in your very own mirror, alone, and have a very frank conversation with yourself (God can listen in too) and evaluate your spiritual life.
Are you on track or are you an excuse maker finding convenient excuses for how you want to live your life?
That you will know.' This is a phrase that will always be in front of you. 'That I (Jesus Christ) am the Lord.' This is the second part of that phrase.
God is truth. The Bible is truth. Truth is where reality meets fact in a perfect match up. Ignore all of this Bible stuff and you will be introduced to reality the hard way. And, your life will be nothing more than filler for history. Not much of a testimony for yourself.
Start taking it all seriously, begin to really fear that which God can withhold from you in life (His blessing and provision and protection, etc.), and you are on your way to a better life. Better than you can ever imagine.
What is the beginning of wisdom? Fear!
End Of Lesson
Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
