You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth. Eze. 5:10-11 10 Therefore the fathers [ab] shall eat [akal] the sons [ben] in the midst [tavek] of thee, and the sons [ben] shall eat [akal] their fathers [ab]; and I will execute [asah] judgments [shephet] in thee, and the whole remnant [sha'eriyth] of thee will I scatter [zarah] into all the winds [ruwach]. 11 Wherefore, as I live [chay], saith [na'um] the Lord [Adonay] GOD [Yahovih]; Surely, because thou hast defiled [tame] my sanctuary [miqdash] with all thy detestable things [shiqquwts], and with all thine abominations [tow`ebah], therefore will I also diminish [gara] thee; neither shall mine eye [ayin] spare [chuwc], neither will I have any pity [chamal]. KJV-Interlinear 10 'Therefore, fathers will eat their sons among you, and sons will eat their fathers; for I will execute judgments on you, and scatter all your remnant to every wind. 11 'So as I live,' declares the Lord GOD,' surely, because you have defiled My sanctuary with all your detestable idols and with all your abominations, therefore I will also withdraw, and My eye shall have no pity and I will not spare. NASB Jerusalem is the city of peace. The only inhabitants of peace are those who live their lives in compliance with Gods spiritual laws. Namely believing in the only Savior, the Son of God, Jesus Christ, residing in fellowship, regularly and consistently studying Gods Word, applying Gods principles to their daily lives, and doing all of this over and over again each and everyday for all of their lives. Spiritual maturity is achieved and peace becomes their possession. Those who do not obey Gods mandates, do not have the right to live in Gods peace. The residents of Jerusalem in Ezekiel's day had violated nearly every law which God commanded. They were negative toward God and His word. They were resistant to Gods mandates. They had their better ideas or they had concluded that whatever their life style was, that it was (in their eyes) more than adequate for God. The truth however, is that anyone who ignores their spiritual life becomes a default subscriber of the worlds opinions. Lacking truth, all that remains, is the pursuit of lies. Pursuing lies in life means that degeneracy in its many forms (from mild indifference toward God and doctrine, to very gross patterns of life) will become the norm for the daily life. Gods sanctuary is His Word resident in fellowship. Residing outside of His Will is tantamount to violating His sanctuary. Deut. 12:32 32 'Whatever I command you, you shall be careful to do; you shall not add to nor take away from it. NASB The people of Jerusalem had declined in their lives to the lowest of human conditions. Not that they were all degenerate people, but they were simply negative toward Gods rules of life. So, during the siege, in their judgment, God would bring them to the place in their physical or temporal life that they were in their spiritual life. Jer. 13:14 14 'And I will dash them against each other, both the fathers and the sons together,' declares the LORD. 'I will not show pity nor be sorry nor have compassion that I should not destroy them.' NASB Jer. 19:9 9 'And I shall make them eat the flesh of their sons and the flesh of their daughters, and they will eat one another's flesh in the siege and in the distress with which their enemies and those who seek their life will distress them.' NASB All pursuits outside of and apart from, the framework of doctrine are illegitimate and therefore pursuits of idols. God provides more than ample warnings against an anti-spiritual or false spiritual attitude. God provides ample information giving everyone the opportunity to have great lives and great futures. People however, of their own free will and choice, choose to disregard God and pursue their own ideas of a decent life. Or, they pursue their own ideas of life as they see it, whether decent of not. Information is constantly available. Warnings (small problems) are constantly provided. Demonstrations (big problems) of mans weaknesses and inadequacies are constantly provided. No one has an excuse. And then one day God simply says, 'Enough.' And then the life of the perpetually negative believer (anyone who is not actively pursuing their spiritual life) falls apart - big time. It is not that God has turned His back on the negative person, but that the negative person has turned his back on God and refuses to change his ways. Therefore, God allows the punishment of the world, the laws of the jungle, the life style patterns that have been chosen, to run their course against the negative individual. When the world runs your life, no good thing ever comes out of it. Today we have threats of earthquakes, disasters from nature, and now bird flu is in the news again. God has many weapons with which to allow negative mankind to be disciplined. He has the overriding power to stop or prevent any catastrophe, or He can allow it to run its course. Those who get with a daily pursuit of their spiritual lives will see His favor. Those who ignore God and attribute all the natural disasters to nothing more than the function of the natural earth will discover the truth the hard way - once they leave this life. Then, turning their life around will not be possible. Do not allow your life to waste away before you finally come to your spiritual senses.
