Eze. 5:3-4 3 Thou shalt also take [laqach] thereof a few [ma`at] in number [micpar], and bind [tsuwr] them in thy skirts [kanaph]. 4 Then take of them again [laqach], and cast [shalak] them into the midst [tavek] of the fire [esh], and burn [saraph] them in the fire [esh]; for thereof shall a fire [esh] come forth [yatsa] into all the house [bayith] of Israel [Yisra'el]. KJV-Interlinear 3 'Take also a few in number from them and bind them in the edges of your robes. 4 'And take again some of them and throw them into the fire, and burn them in the fire; from it a fire will spread to all the house of Israel. NASB
From the third grouping of hair, representing those people who will be thrown to the wind, Ezekiel is to take a few strands of hair and fold them up into his robe. This will represent a limited protection from the onslaught.
But even though these people may escape the initial trials of the siege and famine, the slaughter, and capture of many slaves by the Chaldeans, not all of them will survive their escape.
Not all people who escape the attack are believers. Not all unbelievers or even believers who escape will survive to live out their lives.
And so it is in life. God sifts out the dust, and then He sifts out chaff, and then He sifts out the bad grain, and keeps on sifting until He has only the best of the best grain of people (mature believers) for His purpose.
It has been a while since we have been in our Revelation study, and I am anxious to get back to Rev. 17. But we have really been pursuing that study via different books just to lay a broad groundwork for when we return to that study.
Recall that in our Revelation study, at the mid point of the tribulation, a great evil will be erected in the Temple. That will be the ultimate sign for people to not wait even one more second, but to get out and run to the mountains with whatever they have on them. They are not to return to their homes, not to go to work first, not to go and gather even their families together, but to get out immediately.
Those who obey will have a chance of surviving the slaughter which will see the deaths of two-thirds of the city of Jerusalem and the region of Judea. Only a third will make it to the mountains.
And note that this has been in the warnings since John wrote the book nearly 2000 years ago. People in the Tribulation will have only three and a half years to recognize the threat. Those who recognize it early will have more time to prepare and go to some isolated place for hiding. Those who do not heed the warnings will have no time to prepare. Most of them will die.
Even of those who reach the mountains, many of those will die because the pursuit will be on them, and many will not be discreet, nor smart enough to keep their presence hidden from their pursuers or the people in the neighborhood who would reveal their presence.
A great deal of the Bible's events that we study have implications for the last great and final generation of the Age of Israel. As things happen back in history, so they will happen again.
Eccl. 1:10
10 Is there anything of which one might say, 'See this, it is new'? Already it has existed for ages Which were before us. NASB
God snatches people out of a difficult problem, but that does not guarantee them a future or safety or prosperity. Only Bible doctrine in the soul and a strong positive attitude toward pursuing ones spiritual life guarantees you certain survival.
Amos 4:11
11 'I overthrew you as God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah, And you were like a firebrand snatched from a blaze; Yet you have not returned to Me,' declares the LORD. NASB
People throughout history escape many problems that the world throws at us. They are given a second chance so to speak, but all too often they just do not wake up to the realities of life.
Why do so many falter when placed under pressure? Because prior to the pressure, they do not believe that the Bible has anything of value to offer them. It is all just a hodge-podge of stories.
Look around and you will see all sorts of people who have all sorts of prosperity levels, and most of them do not study the Bible at all. Even among those who do study the Bible, their prosperity level is no different than any other average person on the street.
But that is only what you see on the outside of life. The real prosperity is in the soul. And the souls content is not visible to mankind.
We are not here on this earth to get rich and be popular among men. We are here to advance to spiritual maturity and be prepared for eternity with God. A by-product of our spiritual growth during this life, is Gods support provisions for us to help us get through this life. He knows what we need and when we need it, and He provides it at the proper time. That alone should take the pressure and life's worries off of your shoulders.
Do not evaluate your life based on your accomplishments or the balance of your bank account. Lots of unbelievers are wealthy and they will go to the Lake of Fire. One minute in the Lake of Fire is not worth all of the wealth in all of history. And they will be there forever. Not a good trade.
We always need to be on our guard. Being on ones guard is simply sticking to a daily study plan and not getting away from doctrine. The world has lots of horrible things that it can throw at your life. Just this morning there was a huge earthquake in Pakistan. The early reports are that the dead will number in the tens of thousands, but then you know how the press is for generating large numbers early when they don't really know anything. The huge numbers of reported dead from the recent hurricane did not materialize.
The world has many possible threats that can take people one at a time or by the thousands. None of us are exempt from the worlds threats. All the more reason to get with a Bible study and pursue it with a passion. None of us know the timing of the end of our life.
What is on the line? Our future here on this earth which is directly related to our spiritual preparation time, and then our blessings that we will receive when we get to eternity.
As salvation and living in heaven is infinitely greater than living in the Lake of Fire, so too the blessings of spiritual maturity are infinitely greater than the common blessings of a saved person who does not advance to maturity. Infinite is a big number and that is what you are gambling away to certain loss if you ignore your spiritual life.
Now is the time to post a prayer.
End Of Lesson
Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
