Eze. 2:8-10

8 But thou, son [ben] of man [adam], hear [shama] what I say [dabar] unto thee; Be not [hayah] thou rebellious [mariy] like that rebellious [mariy] house [bayith]: open [patsah] thy mouth [peh], and eat [akal] that I give [nathan] thee.
9 And when I looked [ra'ah], behold, an hand [yad] was sent [shalach] unto me; and, lo, a roll [magillah] of a book [cepher] was therein;
10 And he spread [paras] it before [paniym] me; and it was written [kathab] within [paniym] and without [achowr]: and there was written [kathab] therein lamentations [qiynah], and mourning [hegeh], and woe [hiy]. KJV-Interlinear

8 'Now you, son of man, listen to what I am speaking to you; do not be rebellious like that rebellious house. Open your mouth and eat what I am giving you.' 9 Then I looked, behold, a hand was extended to me; and lo, a scroll was in it. 10 When He spread it out before me, it was written on the front and back; and written on it were lamentations, mourning and woe. NASB

Again, Christ gives Ezekiel the title of 'son of man.' This is a reminder of his roots - the dust of the earth. But it is also one more thing. It is a compliment.

The title is also given to Jesus Christ. In one respect it is a reference to the humiliation of His first advent. In a second respect, the title is in reference to Christ's victory in the angelic conflict. So giving this title to Ezekiel is in a sense a compliment as well as a reminder of humility.

Don't take yourself too seriously. Don't be like the rest of the fools of the world and squander your life away because you just do not agree with that which God teaches. After all He who has been here since the beginning, just might know a thing or two. God is pretty smart ya know!

So unlike other people who open their mouths to speak their mindless thoughts, open your ears (your mouth for food intake), and use your ears to learn (eat) the doctrines, the truths, the principles of life (spiritual food) which God has to teach. Eat the spiritual food, smell it, ponder it, savor it, enjoy it, commit its flavor and taste to your memory and remember it. Use it, metabolize it, for the spiritual benefit it offers, and possess it for your very own.

Earthly foods, the veggies, and meats, and fruits and such, are good temporarily. The are good for a short time and they contain a lot of waste which the body discards one way or another.

Spiritual foods, on the other hand, may be metabolized for one hundred percent benefit and their nutrition remains with you forever. Nothing is ever discarded - unless you simply get away from your Bible study, of course, and that means that you have stopped your spiritual food diet, exchanging it for human philosophy.

There is only one way to grow up spiritually and that is to begin eating a portion of spiritual food each and every day of your life. You eat two or three normal meals everyday, don't you? So why not eat a little spiritual food everyday as well. Physical foods feed the biological body only. The soul needs spiritual foods to keep it healthy.

Before you can learn, you first have to replace your high opinion of yourself. You have to be teachable.

Ezekiel saw the Lord and he fell flat on his face in total humility. God lifted him up to his feet. Only God can lift people up from the dust from which we all have come.

God began to speak, and directed Ezekiel in the only phrase that is really necessary, 'Thus says the Lord.' He is pretty smart and God does know some things which man does not know.

If you value the opinion of someone, you listen in silence as they speak so that you can learn a thing of two. Why? So that you might benefit from their advice and counsel. After all we all want better than we have. That is, if you are normal.

God extends His hand to man. God has information which will benefit mankind. Ezekiel took the scroll and saw that is had a lot of information written on it.

The normal practice for scroll writing, is to write on one side of the parchment or skins, or whatever soft material they wrote on back then, and then roll up the scroll with the writing on the inside. This scroll had a lot of information, so God had to use both sides of the scroll.

Unfortunately this particular scroll had a lot of bad news written on it. Why? Because the people were generally negative toward God and His word.

What was on the scroll? Lamentations, and a groan, and woe.

Lamentations on all hands, a groan from the dying, and 'Woe is me!' from the survivors.

This scroll was a document of pain, fear, terror, misery, and death.

It doesn't have to be that way for you. It didn't have to be that way for the people of Ezekiel's day, but for the many who disregard God in their life, for the many who try to invent their own spiritual path, for the many who refuse to comply with the pattern of spiritual life which God has defined and designed, for the many who are indifferent and just don't have the time, there is 'not' a happy future out there.

Sooner or later everyone, repeat everyone (that includes you), has a 'come to Jesus meet'n' in their life's schedule. Learn your place now so that when your meeting date arrives, you will attend it with high marks for your life rather than with dread or embarrassment.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
