Eze. 2:5-7 5 And they, whether they will hear [shama], or whether they will forbear [chadal], (for they are a rebellious [mariy] house [bayith],) yet shall know [yada] that there hath been a prophet [nabiy] among [tavek] them. 6 And thou, son [ben] of man [adam], be not afraid [yare] of them, neither be afraid [yare] of their words [dabar], though briers [carab] and thorns [cillown] be with thee, and thou dost dwell [yashab] among scorpions [aqrab]: be not afraid [yare] of their words [dabar], nor be dismayed [chathath] at their looks [paniym], though they be a rebellious [mariy] house [bayith]. 7 And thou shalt speak [dabar] my words [dabar] unto them, whether they will hear [shama], or whether they will forbear [chadal]: for they are most rebellious [mariy]. KJV-Interlinear 5 'As for them, whether they listen or not for they are a rebellious house they will know that a prophet has been among them. 6 'And you, son of man, neither fear them nor fear their words, though thistles and thorns are with you and you sit on scorpions; neither fear their words nor be dismayed at their presence, for they are a rebellious house. 7 'But you shall speak My words to them whether they listen or not, for they are rebellious. NASB
Living in this world is like living in a bug infested thorn patch. You cannot go anywhere without getting bit, stung, scratched, cut, or pricked in some fashion.
For whatever reason, people are generally and naturally negative toward God. People simply prefer to pursue their sin nature, their lusts, the satisfaction of their senses. People prefer to pursue their own life as they define it themselves, rejecting the idea that God can provide each person with a better life, and God can do it far better.
So, enter into the world, the Word of God. No excuse is the objective. And no one who has ever lived long enough on planet earth, will ever have an excuse for not knowing their options which God gives everyone, and the repercussions for choosing either for or against God.
The majority will reject Ezekiel's message, and therefore they reject God who originated the message. Many will respond to the message and they will at least believe in the gospel or in the principles of doctrine taught. And unfortunately there will be very few who will seize hold of the doctrine and pursue their spiritual life to the maximum.
This was true in Ezekiel's day. It is true today in our time. It has been a truth in every generation since Adam.
Forewarned, the world will generally reject God, so there will be trouble in many forms.
People who purse their spiritual lives and those who teach or promote Bible teaching will all be subject to the rejection and ridicule of the general population. Friends, neighbors, strangers alike, will ignore you for your ideas. You will be the target of ridicule and many will roll their eyes with regard to your beliefs.
Typically it is because they do not understand the principles of doctrine. And it certainly does not help that there are many kooks out here who twist the Bible and its teaching into some pretty bizarre ideas and some ridiculous systems of rules for ones daily living.
But, as a mature believer, you persevere through the fog of the world together with all of its kooks and thorns.
No excuse. God gives everyone in the world many warnings. God gives everyone in the world many examples of their inability to control life. The weather is only but one method of teaching this principle. Just looking up at the stars in the night sky should teach us all that we are very insignificant in this universe.
In virtually everything in life and with little effort, a person can glean some example for a spiritual lesson, but most folks do not even want to make that effort. Just, as many will enter into the Lake of Fire because they refuse to think six little words, 'Father I believe in Jesus Christ.'
How much simpler can salvation be? How much simpler can the spiritual life be?
The Israelites are in captivity. They are slaves. They once had a spiritual legacy and now they have only divine judgment to look forward to. What amount of difficulty does it take to convince people that they need something greater than they are, in order to have a better life?
For some it takes very little difficulty. For others the hard knocks have to be repeated over and over, again and again and they still refuse to recognize their inadequacies.
The long and short of it all is, that people simply do not think that they need their spiritual life, or they think that they can fulfill their spiritual needs in other ways, or they think that their temporal needs, wants, desires, are all that are important in life.
And so people live their lives trying to get the better deal, the quicker deal, taking shortcut after shortcut, and they end up their life missing out on everything.
Don't wait until your life is over before you realize that you had many opportunities, and you squandered them all.
Jer. 1:17
17 'Now, gird up your loins, and arise, and speak to them all which I command you. Do not be dismayed before them, lest I dismay you before them. NASB
2 Sam. 23:6
6 'But the worthless, every one of them will be thrust away like thorns, Because they cannot be taken in hand; NASB
