Eze. 2:1-2 1 And he said [amar] unto me, Son [ben] of man [adam], stand [amad] upon thy feet [regel], and I will speak [dabar] unto thee. 2 And the spirit [ruwach] entered [bow] into me when he spake [dabar] unto me, and set [amad] me upon my feet [regel], that I heard [shama] him that spake [dabar] unto me. KJV-Interlinear 1 Then He said to me, 'Son of man, stand on your feet that I may speak with you!' 2 And as He spoke to me the Spirit entered me and set me on my feet; and I heard Him speaking to me. NASB
Now Christ is speaking to Ezekiel. He begins by addressing him as 'son of man.' This phrase is used the most in the book of Ezekiel - over 90 times, once in Daniel, and nowhere else in the Bible with respect to ordinary people.
The phrase is used frequently with reference to the Savior, in His role as the Son of Man. Man being the reference to Adam, 'adamah,' which means common red dust. In one respect the title reveals Christ in His humiliation, Psa. 8:4-8, Matt. 16:13, 20:18, and it is used in His exaltation in other aspects of His life, Dan. 7:13-14, Matt. 26:64, John 5:27
Psa. 8:4
4 What is man, that Thou dost take thought of him? And the son of man, that Thou dost care for him? NASB
Dan. 7:13
13 'I kept looking in the night visions, And behold, with the clouds of heaven One like a Son of Man was coming, NASB
This title for Ezekiel serves as a reminder that God is infinitely above the human race. Likewise angels also are far above the capabilities of the human race. So this title becomes a part of the message to remind Ezekiel from whom he comes, and to remind the human race of their origins. We are all dust, common dust, and more than that, we are worthless common dust.
Mankind will never ever rise above that level of existence on his own, except in his own arrogant imagination of course.
So God places all of the players in their proper place.
Ezekiel was bowing down before the Lord, as well he should, but now Christ tells him to rise up to his feet so they can talk face to face as it were.
Humility is a good thing when it comes from the soul. Ones posture is irrelevant as long as the soul is in its right place.
No one can speak with God, no one can have a relationship with God apart from the position of the Holy Spirit in ones life. The Holy Spirit is the conduit for all communication between man and God.
In the Old Testament the Holy Spirit did not indwell every believer as He does in our dispensation. But from time to time the Holy Spirit would temporarily enter, into a given individual which in the Old Testament was called 'indument.' Ex 31:1-11, 1 Sam. 10:9-11, Psa. 51:11, Ezek 3:24 are just a few examples of indument.
Note too, that the Holy Spirits residence within the believers body is not required in order for the believer to be in fellowship. Fellowship just places the Holy Spirit in charge of the communication link between God and the human spirit. Note also that the residence of the Holy Spirit in your body is not an emotional experience. You can neither feel, nor measure, nor sense in any way, His presence.
Ezekiel is being called as a common man, not some super human being, not as a saint who possesses attributes above those of other people, but as a common person. Gods communication can technically and potentially come to anyone, but the people of Judah are so negative and obstinate that, that leaves very few with whom God can or will communicate.
Being enslaved one would think that humility would surface in their attitude, but not for negative mankind. So a message of further doom and gloom is coming.
Now is the time to post a prayer.
End Of Lesson
Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
