Exodus 15:22-24

Lesson # Exodus 15:22-24
Study Material - Exodus 15:22-24

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Ex 15:22-24

22 Then Moses led Israel from the Red Sea, and they went out into the wilderness of Shur; and they went three days in the wilderness and found no water. 23 And when they came to Marah, they could not drink the waters of Marah, for they were bitter; therefore it was named Marah. 24 So the people grumbled at Moses, saying, 'What shall we drink?'

The passing through the Red Sea is representative of expressing faith in Christ. It therefore represents salvation. God provided the way, the only way of deliverance and that was through the sea. To refuse it would mean certain slaughter and a terrifying and miserable death at the hands of the Egyptians.

So once saved there is a party. There are observations like the dead Egyptians washing up along the shoreline, the sense of freedom. No more straw collection. No more brick making. The relief of the burdens of Egypt have been lifted. And the party continues probably for a few days anyway.

But after salvation what? Before salvation the issue in ones life is, 'What do you think of Christ?' And the decision there is to believe or not believe. Once one believes in Christ several things happen. All of which you do not sense in anyway whatsoever. I'll direct you to the 'Blessings' chart on the Index Page. See the link above.

But in brief each person who believes in Christ receives a regenerated human spirit inside of them. Imputed into that human spirit is eternal life. Now each person who is referred to as a believer possesses a body soul and spirit. Eternal life is sealed for them but they are an empty vessel spiritually now so to speak. They are an infant believer who needs to grow up.

Salvation is not the end of ones spiritual trip. It is only the beginning.

Moses then led them away from the shore of the sea and off through the wilderness of Shur, 'Shuwr', a region of desert, a wall for traveling about, to travel as a harlot, to wander. So this comes to mean a false sense of travel walled in by undefined desert walls. Recall this definition from our study of Abram in Gen. 20. Only here the Israelites are wandering in a vacuum with very little knowledge. The desert represents their environment of the world. The jungle as we call it throughout this study. Not many reference points because they lack Bible doctrine or significant spiritual growth in their soul.

So we are saved now. So where is all that milk and honey??? The blessings that are supposed to go along with being saved? Well people are still living in this world with all its disadvantages They are looking to blessings as they would look to things in the world. Or rather they still relate blessing to 'things'.

Bitterness often sets in. The people are bitter, they ridicule, they murmur or complain as the Israelites did. They test Moses, and God as it were. And in fact it is they who are being tested. Thus they fail their second test as they failed when they were on the west bank of the sea, fearing the oncoming Egyptians.

Here on the east side, they go without water. They become bitter and when they arrive at a place where water is, then that water is bitter. So what is up? People still have a knowledge level tuned into the world. They think in terms of being quenched with water so they look to water for that quenching. People look to the daily details they are used to - their job, income, home, social life, etc. Their expectations are for greater portions of the same things that they are used too. So where is the right boy/girl friend for me, the right spouse, that winning ticket, nicer home, newer car, and so forth.

Life does not stop at salvation, one has to move forward in life certainly, but one has to move forward in their spiritual life too, and that is a must. Too many people just expect that their worldly environment will improve overnight. Often they become contentious and test, or rag, or nag, or complain at those (Moses) who they think have led them astray. 'You promised milk and honey and all there is here is sand and bitter water! What is this Christian stuff anyway? It doesn't work!'

So Moses is led to a tree. God again does the leading and the tree is the reminder of the Cross, but more than that, it is a reminder, or an introduction of Christ, the main tree root, out of which all good things come. The bitter waters of this world, our environment we live in whatever it may be, can be sweetened by means of Christ. He is the living Word. We study the written Word and in so doing we have Christ in us, that is His Word which we learn little by little, day be day. Prosperity will come. Look at the world for examples. Christian societies are prosperous - the USA. Non-Christian societies are starving, backward, lack innovation. Does being a Christian guarantee you prosperity? No. By being a Christian you have become a part of Gods family. You go where God leads you, do as God directs you. This guidance comes naturally to you through your Bible study.

If you go negative, then hardship and misery are your companions. The luck of the desert is your destiny here on earth. In the world there are the very rich and the very poor and a lot of us in between. Where will you end up? What kind of a pawn will you be in this life? Will you complain throughout your life, or get off the pot, so to speak, and get with a program of growing up spiritually.

After salvation what? This question becomes, 'What do you think of Bible doctrine?

Will you remain self centered and constantly ask, 'What now? What do we drink now? When do we get a raise? When will things get better? Are we there yet?'

Or will you become positive and desire to learn and advance as God leads you through your spiritual growth. Will you begin rely on God and not on the things of this world. Believe it or not, God is pretty smart and He really does know what you need and what is good for you. It just takes us a little time to figure that out for ourselves. As infants and young children we need to learn to trust our parents. So also, in our spiritual life we need to study and learn to trust in God. He will never forsake us. So as faith grows, so trust grows, as faith grows, so trust grows, and the cycle continues throughout our life.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
