Lesson # Exodus 13:11-16
Study Material - Exodus 13:11-16
You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.
Ex. 13:11-16
11 'Now it shall come about when the LORD brings you to the land of the Canaanite, as He swore to you and to your fathers, and gives it to you, 12 that you shall devote to the LORD the first offspring of every womb, and the first offspring of every beast that you own; the males belong to the LORD. 13 But every first offspring of a donkey you shall redeem with a lamb, but if you do not redeem it, then you shall break its neck; and every first-born of man among your sons you shall redeem. 14 And it shall be when your son asks you in time to come, saying, 'What is this?' then you shall say to him, 'With a powerful hand the LORD brought us out of Egypt, from the house of slavery. 15 'And it came about, when Pharaoh was stubborn about letting us go, that the LORD killed every first-born in the land of Egypt, both the first-born of man and the first-born of beast. Therefore, I sacrifice to the LORD the males, the first offspring of every womb, but every first-born of my sons I redeem.' 16 'So it shall serve as a sign on your hand, and as phylacteries on your forehead, for with a powerful hand the LORD brought us out of Egypt.'
The differences between Gods work and that of man is set out clearly here. It is God, Jesus Christ, who brings out of Egypt (slavery). It is God, Jesus Christ, who brings to the land of Canaan (maturity). It is God, Jesus Christ, who gives this to each person as a gift. We can do nothing to earn or deserve this gift. Man can do nothing to enhance the gift. Man can do nothing to alter it in any way. Man has absolutely nothing to do with the gift except in being its recipient through belief in God, Jesus Christ.
Therefore as a price for this gift, something must be paid in order to redeem man out of slavery. Gods holiness is made up of two things - His righteousness and His justice. Righteousness demands perfection, no corruption. Justice demands punishment and destruction of all corruption.
Jesus Christ went to the Cross to receive the penalty for all of mans sins. No double jeopardy. Once the sin has been judged then it is forever canceled. Human good was not punished at the Cross. Human good was rejected. Jesus Christ paid the price for mans redemption on the Cross, therefore securing His ownership of all who believe in Him.
The ritual continues to teach these principles. All first born males (Jesus Christ was Gods first born male son), re to be redeemed, not sacrificed. The price for each male child is set at five shekels in Num. 18:16. Humans are not sacrificed. Humans are never sacrificed. Only other religions who copy the rituals that God mandates, distort them into some other thing such as human sacrifices. Evidence of this exists throughout the world, therefore the evidence of Gods commands must have existed in order to copy and distort them.
Every first born male of the clean beasts were to be offered to God a a sacrifice, indicating the work of Christ on the Cross. His spiritual death was required in order to receive the punishment for all of mans sins. His physical death was subsequently required after the work of the cross was finished, in order to prove victory over death in the first resurrection.
Of beasts of burden, the donkey, an unclean animal, an animal representing the works of man, then a lamb was sacrificed in its place as a substitute. Man is unclean by our very existence, therefore we can have no one who can qualify for the work required on the Cross. We need a substitute, the Son of God, who goes to the Cross in our place. If an animal is not to be redeemed, then its neck is broken. Anything that rejects the work of Christ on the Cross is destroyed. It is as simple as that.
Only one door, only one God, 'The God', only one faith. And when children ask about God, about heaven and such, then the answer is Zech. 4:6, 'not by might, nor by power', not by mans ingenuity, or wit, or technology, or wisdom of any kind is redemption brought to mankind, but by the mighty (infinitely powerful) hand of God is salvation brought to mankind and presented as a gift to be received by means of only believing in that gift - Christ's work on the Cross.
Pharaoh was stubborn. Pharaoh refused to let the animals go. Pharaoh refused to let the children go. Therefore, Pharaoh was required to lose the first born of both man and beast in order to secure the freedom from slavery for all the Israelites (those peoples who are the chosen of God - all who believe in Christ).
Therefore, follow these commands, and teach them, that they will become a sign. Note that there is no actual mark on your hand or forehead. No number three if you believe. No number 666, if you do not believe, that is stamped in red ink on your forehead. But the principle of understanding the Word of God, as the principles are taught to each on of us, so that we can in turn pass on this teaching to our children for their eternal benefit.
Phylacteries are narrow leather strips which have principles of doctrine engraved or printed on them. These are tied around the forehead or upper arm and kept as quick reference and study. Repetitive study is required in order to keep Gods commands in the forefront of your mind. Handy notes help. Some folks carry verses in their pocket. Others have them posted on their refrigerators, in their office, in their bed room, anywhere that doctrine can become a constant reminder and an imprintment on the mind.
Now is the time to post a prayer.
