Exodus 12:1-10

Lesson # Exodus 12:1-10
Study Material - Exodus 12:1-10

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Ex. 12:1-10

1 Now the LORD said to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, 2 'This month shall be the beginning of months for you; it is to be the first month of the year to you. 3 Speak to all the congregation of Israel, saying, 'On the tenth of this month they are each one to take a lamb for themselves, according to their fathers' households, a lamb for each household. 4 'Now if the household is too small for a lamb, then he and his neighbor nearest to his house are to take one according to the number of persons in them; according to what each man should eat, you are to divide the lamb. 5 'Your lamb shall be an unblemished male a year old; you may take it from the sheep or from the goats. 6 'And you shall keep it until the fourteenth day of the same month, then the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel is to kill it at twilight. 7 'Moreover, they shall take some of the blood and put it on the two doorposts and on the lintel of the houses in which they eat it. 8 'And they shall eat the flesh that same night, roasted with fire, and they shall eat it with unleavened bread and bitter herbs. 9 'Do not eat any of it raw or boiled at all with water, but rather roasted with fire, both its head and its legs along with its entrails. 10 'And you shall not leave any of it over until morning, but whatever is left of it until morning, you shall burn with fire.

'The Lord Spoke.' All doctrine begins and originates with Gods spoken words. Nothing is left to the imagination or invention of man. Nothing in the Bible came from any source other than God. God speaks to Moses and Aaron, and to the people through them. Today we have God speaking not directly to each one of us, but speaking to each one of us through His written word. The days of direct communication with God through direct conversation, dreams or visions and such are long since gone. They terminated when the book of Revelation was written and thus closed the written scriptures give to us from God.

There is but one more plague. It will be a final plague securing the freedom of those who wish to leave the slavery environment of Egypt. Though directed at the people of Israel, it applies to everyone who believes in God (Jesus Christ).

For this plague there is preparation. Preparation requires listening to the instructions given (positive volition) and obedience to those same instructions (application of what ones has learned to ones life). To disobey them, or to merely disregard them will mean death (spiritual death for the unbeliever, or spiritual immaturity for the negative believer). And we should all know that death is something that none of us can recover from, it is permanent. Once the soul (unbelievers), or the soul and spirit (believers) have left the body, then all is in Gods hands. We cannot bring ourselves back to this life and no physician or magic spell can bring us back either.

A new beginning is commanded. This current month which the Hebrews were in was to be their new 'spiritual year beginning'. It was Spring or about April, near the time when the sun crosses over the equator. Prior to this the Hebrews began their year in the fall about October, consistent with the Egyptian year back at that time. What the Hebrews did not bring with them from Canaan four centuries earlier, they adopted from they Egyptian hosts, or masters as it turned out. If we do not learn our morals, our principles, our guidance from Gods word, then we adopt that which is before us in this world. The world is relative in its application of a pattern of life. Left to its own devices, the world can produce reasons why it is right to burn witches at the stake, why it is right to be prejudiced against a particular group, etc., and thus we have the tyrannies that have occurred throughout history.

There is going to be in this new beginning, a new spiritual life. The world has seen physical births and the same repetition of the same old things day after day, year after year. Now God is going to institute a new ritual for teaching the principle of His grace and salvation for mankind. In order to be able to make the right decisions in life man needs to have the correct information and direction first, and from which to make that decision.

The Passover is the ritual or the feast celebration. It is to occur in the now designated first month of the year. On the tenth of the month a male lamb is to be selected and separated out from the flock. Christ was selected and separated out from the flock of humanity. Christ was a man as well as true God, but this emphasizes his humanity. It is to be perfect and without blemish, to designate the perfection of Christ, and his qualification of perfection for the cross.

The lamb is to be a yearling male (not a female), not a child, but an adult. It is to be selected for each household or if homes were poor then they could go together to share a lamb. Salvation is not deprived from anyone based on their possessions in life.

The sacrifice shall be performed on the afternoon of the fourteenth day, or four days later, and that same night (later that evening) or between the evenings as the Hebrew text describes it, the feast is to be consumed and what is not consumed is to be thoroughly burned in the fire. The blood first being spread along the door posts and above the door to designate that this household has complied with the commands as given by God and therefore is atoned by the covering of the blood on its door. The main entry of the house.

Christ was crucified in the afternoon on the Cross, and then taken to the burial site before the evening came. The feast is mans identification with the sacrifice of Christ on the Cross. The consuming of the lamb as He consumed our sins in our place. Nothing was to be left after the feast. There were no unaccounted for sins after the Cross. The entire work was completed. Nothing was left undone. The Cross was to take place one time, and one time only, not to be repeated in history for different generations. Faith in Christ is required only once in ones life to secure salvation. Though the feast of the Passover was repeated, that was for the purpose of teaching people the principles of salvation by means of the Cross by the Son of God, who became man via birth of a virgin, and went to the Cross after living an unblemished life. Jesus Christ was qualified, perfect and unblemished, both God and man. No other human can make this claim.

Unleavened bread is eaten along with the lamb. The yeast is representative of human good or sin as it were, but mainly human good, as no effort of mankind was allowed to enter into Gods pan. There is only one way of salvation through Jesus Christ alone, and no other method acceptable by God for entering into a relationship with Him. All other religions, or philosophies in the world are false and rejected by God.
