Lesson # Exodus 11:4-8
Study Material - Exodus 11:4-8
You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.
Ex. 11:4-8
4 And Moses said, 'Thus says the LORD, 'About midnight I am going out into the midst of Egypt, 5 and all the first-born in the land of Egypt shall die, from the first-born of the Pharaoh who sits on his throne, even to the first-born of the slave girl who is behind the millstones; all the first-born of the cattle as well. 6 'Moreover, there shall be a great cry in all the land of Egypt, such as there has not been before and such as shall never be again. 7 'But against any of the sons of Israel a dog shall not even bark, whether against man or beast, that you may understand how the LORD makes a distinction between Egypt and Israel.' 8 'And all these your servants will come down to me and bow themselves before me, saying, 'Go out, you and all the people who follow you,' and after that I will go out.' And he went out from Pharaoh in hot anger.
Since Ex. 4, the threat of the death of the first born of Egypt has been known. God systematically went through nine plagues. Plagues such as Egypt had never seen, ever in the history of the land, nor any other land on earth had seen.
He distinction was clearly made between the Hebrews, which is about to become the nation of Israel, and the Egyptians. Their birth as a nation coming out of the last plague, the Passover, representing the work of Christ on the Cross, and their subsequent faith in Christ represented in the crossing over of the Red Sea between two walls of water. The world which cannot touch them as they cross over on dry land, under the leadership and protection of Jesus Christ, the cloud and pillar of fire.
'Thus says', here God dictates the last plague to Pharaoh through Moses. Without hesitation, without any second chance, the last plague of the death of all of the first born of Egypt shall take place on a specified night at midnight. The night to be later specified, but for now there is no negotiation, no dialogue. God dictates the plan and the events that will take place.
The first born of all the people will die. There will be no distinction between rich or poor, between rank or privilege, or those destitute. The judgment will apply to everyone in the nation, with the exception of the Hebrews and those who align with them in their worship and obedience to God.
The world will know that there is no other like Israel, Deu. 33:29. Who is Israel? They are the chosen of God, those who, by faith, choose God over all else in this world. They are all believers in Christ, the Son of God, the Savior who will come (from their perspective) and who has come (from our perspective) to go to the Cross for the purpose of securing salvation for all of mankind.
The plague is universal so that all will see and know of God and His plan, and His power. That there is none else like Him.
There will be no more summoning of Moses, but after this plague there will be such a cry of mourning and grieving, that the Egyptians will go before Moses and bow down, and through Moses, bow down to the God of Israel, saying 'leave us'. They do not go to them in repentance for their attitude toward God or the Hebrew people, but in their desire to be rid of them.
They prefer their life style of sin, and life without the one true God, over that of a life with the most powerful God which they have been witness too. Despite seeing the truth, they still prefer the lie.
With this death march at midnight, not one person who is with Israel will be harmed. Not one person who paints the blood on the door jams will be visited by the destroyer who brings eternal death and eternal separation from God. Even dogs who bark normally at passersby, will not bark that night against the Hebrews.
Do people keep to their defiant attitudes even in our current times? Of course. Several examples are all around us, such as, people who smoke knowing full well the negative aspects and dangers of smoking; People who are too loose in their sexual behavior and eventually get something like aids, knowing full well the dangers of aids and other various diseases; People who want more than they can afford in life and go out defiantly and spend all and more than they have, knowing full well the dangers they place themselves and their families in financially; People who ignore their responsibility to study the Bible daily, thus risking their own state of soul, risking the blessings they could have in their own daily life, risking the greater blessings they could have in eternity. The list certainly goes on. Oh, and those terrorists that are holding out in the caves of Afghanistan because of their misguided belief that their leader, this Usama-yo-momma is some type of great person, totally rejecting the truth that he is nothing more than a deceiver, a user of those who follow him, an opportunist, a common psycho murderer.
So long as there is negative volition in this world there will be the likes of these terrorists. The arrogant that lead and the fools that follow. Today we see this example of terrorism on a limited scale. Imagine what it will be like, in the Tribulation, when the terrorists are those in command of the military might that we possess in the USA today, and use that technology against the general world population!
Everything is in the right hands today, but one day, though it might be difficult to imagine, but one day these tables will be turned as evil will rule And people will follow and defiantly reject the truth just as the Egyptians rejected the truth of all those plagues that fell on them in short order.
Life without Bible doctrine exposes any person, both you and I, to this low level of humanity. We are not exempt. But with Bible doctrine in our souls, then we can see the truth, we can discern life, and avoid all the pitfalls of a miserable life. Beyond that, too, we will be in a position of enjoying all the blessings that God wills for each of our lives.
Pharaoh has lost and he is not happy. He throws Moses out and threatens his life. See the last couple of verses of the previous chapter. When we reject Gods Word, we in effect, seal the doom over our own life.
Now is the time to post a prayer.
