Exodus 11:1-3

Lesson # Exodus 11:1-3
Study Material - Exodus 11:1-3

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Ex. 11:1-3

1 Now the LORD said to Moses, 'One more plague I will bring on Pharaoh and on Egypt; after that he will let you go from here. When he lets you go, he will surely drive you out from here completely. 2 Speak now in the hearing of the people that each man ask from his neighbor and each woman from her neighbor for articles of silver and articles of gold.' 3 And the LORD gave the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians. Furthermore, the man Moses himself was greatly esteemed in the land of Egypt, both in the sight of Pharaoh's servants and in the sight of the people.

A parentheses occurs in the text at this point. Here we are told of the instructions given to Moses, which will be later relayed to Pharaoh, then terminated in Pharaoh's final refusal and rage in verse 8.

Moses is given his final set of instructions. One more plague is on the schedule. This is the last, the final plague. After this there will be no more plagues. Pharaoh will drive the Hebrews out. Pharaoh will lose all thought of negotiation. He will lose all attempts to retain a portion of the Hebrew people or their property. He will just want them out, as certainly his own people will compel in their loud voice after their loss of each households first born child. Their woe, their anxiety, the sorrow of their loss will be overwhelmingly great, just as we saw the people in New York grieving after last Septembers attack by terrorists. Though we are not as Egypt was, the grieving of loved ones is the same for those who remain alive whether the loss is to good people or bad.

Pharaoh will drive the Hebrews out, therefore make preparations now for leaving the country. Pharaoh, in his anger, will want them gone pronto. And they will need to leave pronto, because after Pharaoh and his countrymen have had their period of grieving, he/they will change their collective minds once again and then pursue the Hebrews for the purpose of destroying them only to meet their own final destruction. After that, Egypt's greatness will cease and will never recover.

Moses is to speak in the hearing of the people, the Hebrews, that they are to ask of their masters, Egyptian neighbors, etc., for articles of value and wealth. The general attitude of the Egyptians will be to want to give assistance to the Hebrews, and they will give freely of their wealth.

What began as criticism and ridicule of Moses and the God of Israel, has now turned to a sort of respect for Moses authority and apparent power. The Egyptians are awed by power that they can see. Pharaoh was their one and only source of wealth and power and to whom most looked for example of greatness, whether politically or financially. If you wanted to get ahead in Egypt, then you rubbed elbows in Pharaoh's court.

Moses, with but a stick, held the weather at his command, held nature at his command, and overwhelmed Pharaoh's authority. The Egyptian's were impressed by, not the Word of God, but by the power they observed and attributed to the work of Moses. Moses, though nervous in the beginning came out of all of this a highly respected and very much in self control man. He will remain so throughout his life. Sure he will have his moments of yelling at the people, but that is not his basic personality. Rather the exception than the rule. Besides yelling sometimes helps one to clear out ones system. If you know what I mean.

Pharaoh hated Moses, yet he held respect for Moses as his equal. Pharaoh was still arrogant and arrogant people hold in awe, only by those that they see as their equal. Note, arrogance such as Pharaoh had, never submits voluntarily to anyone or anything. The political, financial, and emotional pressure was going to be too great for Pharaoh.

In life the Egyptians were impressed by what they saw or witnessed. They were not impressed by what they heard - Gods Word. Their priorities were wrong. This is often true in our lives. We are impressed by what we see or what touches our five senses in life. Those things are easy to relate to. Not so in the spiritual life. We can study Gods Word and not really see any evidence of improvement in our lives for quite some time. Frustrated or otherwise impatient people get easily discouraged. People want to see results now, and fall away from their Bible study, if they ever had a study program, when things just do not seem to be going anywhere. And that is the problem with most people. They have their eyes on things or results in life. Things that they can measure or quantify. And the spiritual life is not quantifiable in human terms.

The spiritual life is not designed to make you rich, or give you a great social life, or some other attribute you deem worthy in this life. The spiritual life is designed to get you to a point of spiritual maturity, to get Gods viewpoint into your soul. Such that you will be able to think clearly, be able to see life clearly, be able to discern between right and wrong, to prepare you for eternity with God in heaven and then and there receive tremendous blessings which are above and beyond your imagination. The spiritual life stabilizes you in this life, gives you a relaxed mental attitude. It orients you to life.

The Egyptians were impressed with Moses because of what they saw. We need to be impressed with God because of what we know (His word inside our own souls).

Now is the time to post a prayer.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
