Exodus 9:18-26

Lesson # Exodus 9:18-26
Study Material - Exodus 9:18-26

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Ex. 9:18-26

8 Behold, about this time tomorrow, I will send a very heavy hail, such as has not been seen in Egypt from the day it was founded until now. 19 Now therefore send, bring your livestock and whatever you have in the field to safety. Every man and beast that is found in the field and is not brought home, when the hail comes down on them, will die.' 20 The one among the servants of Pharaoh who feared the word of the LORD made his servants and his livestock flee into the houses; 21 but he who paid no regard to the word of the LORD left his servants and his livestock in the field. 22 Now the LORD said to Moses, 'Stretch out your hand toward the sky, that hail may fall on all the land of Egypt, on man and on beast and on every plant of the field, throughout the land of Egypt.' 23 And Moses stretched out his staff toward the sky, and the LORD sent thunder and hail, and fire ran down to the earth. And the LORD rained hail on the land of Egypt. 24 So there was hail, and fire flashing continually in the midst of the hail, very severe, such as had not been in all the land of Egypt since it became a nation. 25 And the hail struck all that was in the field through all the land of Egypt, both man and beast; the hail also struck every plant of the field and shattered every tree of the field. 26 Only in the land of Goshen, where the sons of Israel were, there was no hail.

Moses is still talking to Pharaoh. Moses is now giving Pharaoh instructions. 'Send messengers. Warn everyone to bring all they have out of the field and into shelter. Any who remain outside will die. Anyone who goes indoors will live.'

Twenty four hours notice is given and runners are sent. Some by now are convinced that Moses is not one to be ignored and they will follow the instructions. Most will ignore the warning and they will not live to see the remaining history that is about to be made. Notice that Pharaoh does not go outdoors, but probably will watch from his window.

Interesting that Pharaoh could have avoided all of this by simply letting the Hebrews go, but by now his soul is so calloused over that he should have died himself by now, but God keeps him alive as we have already seen. Pharaoh was advised that his life has been extended by God, not for the reason of releasing the Hebrews, but for the purpose of revealing Gods power, and, in addition, Pharaoh's continued defiance will be revealed despite his knowledge that he has been given extra life. Pharaoh just does not believe anything that Moses tells him, nor does he believe that any of these events are other than natural phenomena.

The next day arrives and God now gives instructions to Moses and Moses raises his hand toward the sky. Aaron is not a part of this exercise. Before God was giving instruction to Moses, then from Moses to Aaron, then from Aaron (a type of prophet) to Pharaoh. Now the messages come direct from Moses to Pharaoh. Advance warning, and spiritual information is readily available through the prophets. We today have the entire content of Gods Word. We have in effect all that God needs to tell us, in written form, and we have the opportunity to either listen to the instruction or to ignore it. Later in our study we will read of a conversation between Abraham and a rich man. Abraham is in Paradise, and the rich man is in Torments. A great gulf deep will divide the two regions. The rich man is in great pain and asks Abraham to warn his living relatives of the doom that awaits them, and to make them listen to Gods Word. Abraham's response is simply that they have the written word. If they do not choose to listen to that, then they will listen to nothing.

Pharaoh did not listen to Aaron, the messenger of Moses, therefore God will deal with him direct. When things get that far, then the disaster that is coming is generally not pretty.

He sky opened up with lightning and hail, destroying nearly everything in is path. Death came visiting and probably many died in this plague. This too was not just a short little cloud burst, but a continuing storm that came in waves. Anyone caught outside might have a change of heart and run for shelter. Certainly when Pharaoh sends for Moses, there has to be some sort of lull in the storm or the messenger could not get to Moses and return him to Pharaoh. But that is in tomorrow's lesson.

This was the worst storm in Egypt's history, and not only that it was a selective storm. No storm in Goshen, and only certain crops were damaged. Typically hail falls on anything and everything, and the aftermath is destroyed crops. All crops that got in the way.

Judgment on sinners is selective in life as well. God is able to rain down judgment on unbelievers, or disobedient believers selectively without harming positive believers. As a positive believer in this world the problems of life can swirl all around you. You can see others falling apart, or even suffering in some way, while you are unaffected. It is nothing to boast or gloat about as others who deserve their punishment, receive it. All judgment which comes from God is justified, just as all blessing that comes to you from God is never earned nor deserved, but comes to you by means of Gods grace.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
